In 2025, the United Nations chose the theme of World Environment Day as “Beat Plastic Pollution” and World Oceans Day as “The Magic of the Ocean: Preserving the Source of Humanity”. These are two timely, urgent and global messages.

Responding to World Oceans Day, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, held from June 1 to 8 every year, is an important occasion to raise awareness and demonstrate responsibility for preserving the environment and marine resources, while strongly affirming the determination to sustainably develop marine economic sectors associated with protecting environmental resources and national sovereignty at sea.

In Quang Tri, in recent times, the province has made continuous efforts in environmental protection and sustainable development through building green agriculture - tourism models; activities to promote waste classification at source; planting mangrove forests, implementing programs to increase the rate of plastic waste collection; collecting coastal waste; launching the movement "Say no to single-use plastic"; encouraging environmentally friendly products...
However, the challenges remain huge as waste discharge is uncontrolled, environmental protection awareness of a segment of the population and businesses is low, waste treatment technology is limited... These are "bottlenecks" that require each citizen to continue to act more resolutely, synchronously and creatively to join hands in protecting the environment.

Speaking at the rally, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized: World Environment Day on June 5, World Ocean Day on June 8 and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025 are opportunities for Quang Tri province to affirm its determination, change awareness, unify actions, proactively overcome difficulties and challenges, and continue to prevent the increase in environmental pollution.
At the same time, sustainably exploit marine and island resources and environments to respond to climate change, build models to gradually use environmentally friendly products to contribute to environmental protection, strengthen the planting of forests, trees, and coastal mangrove forests to restore degraded lands, combat desertification, drought, and saltwater intrusion, and respond to climate change.
On behalf of the provincial leaders, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam called on departments, branches, sectors and localities to promote propaganda on the topics "Fighting plastic pollution" and "The miraculous ocean: Preserving the source of life for humanity" to each residential area, school, agency and enterprise. Organize practical activities such as: cleaning the environment, collecting plastic waste, planting trees, restoring coastal mangrove forests, building green roads - model residential areas in terms of environment.
Encourage businesses and people to research and apply green technology, develop a circular economy, use environmentally friendly materials, and improve waste treatment efficiency. At the same time, promptly commend and reward individuals and groups with good initiatives and models in environmental protection, resource conservation and sea and island preservation.
On this occasion, the organizing committee presented national flags to fishermen in 5 districts: Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, Gio Linh, Vinh Linh and Con Co. Garbage bins were presented to 20 disadvantaged people in Dong Ha city and 139 schools in the districts: Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, Dakrong, Huong Hoa, Quang Tri town.
