Phu Hung Commune Youth Union visited and presented necessities to union member Tran Minh Khang, residing in Phu Huu hamlet, Phu Hung commune.
Unlike traditional social security activities that only take place during holidays and Tet, this model is regular, long-term and in-depth. Each commune youth union will "twin" and accompany at least 1 disabled youth, depending on their circumstances and abilities, to support them in all aspects, from visiting, giving gifts, to organizing recreational activities, studying, practicing skills... Thereby, the children can live in the love and sharing of the community.
Up to now, 12 disabled youth (autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, mobility difficulties, serious illnesses, etc.) have been approached, accompanied and supported regularly by the Youth Union branches in the commune. The activities not only create joy and reduce inferiority complex for the children but also become a bridge for them to participate in Youth Union - Association activities, better integrating with their peers.
Not only bringing profound humanitarian values, the model of “1 Youth Union accompanying 1 disabled person” also creates an environment for training and growth for union members, youth. Through the process of contacting, supporting and accompanying disabled people, union members and youth have the opportunity to hone their skills in organizing activities, communicating, and developing a spirit of sharing and responsibility towards the community.
A typical case is that of Tran Minh Khang, residing in Phu Huu hamlet, an example of overcoming difficulties with determination. At the age of 25, Khang discovered that he had a serious kidney disease. Faced with dire circumstances, the Executive Committee of the Phu Hung Commune Youth Union quickly visited, encouraged, and mobilized support for necessities and cash so that Khang could go to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.
Thanks to the timely care and support of the Youth Union and his own optimism and perseverance, Khang's health has gradually stabilized. Not only did he overcome his illness, Khang also became an active factor in youth movement activities in the locality. With his enthusiasm and responsibility, Khang was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Phu Huu Hamlet Youth Union, Phu Hung Commune for the 2024-2025 term. Khang shared: “Before, when I discovered that I had the disease, I was really in crisis, not knowing what the future would be like. But it was the care and support of my brothers and sisters in the Youth Union that gave me more confidence and determination. From small gifts, words of encouragement, to specific support for treatment costs, I felt sincere and warm affection. Now that my health is more stable, I just want to contribute a little bit of my strength to the activities of the Youth Union.”
In addition, the model also contributes to enriching the activities of the Youth Union, strengthening the close relationship between the Youth Union and the community, arousing the spirit of "helping each other" among young people, creating a foundation for building a fair, humane and civilized society. The participation of Youth Union branches in humanitarian and volunteer activities has affirmed the core role of the Youth Union in social security activities at the grassroots level.
The model of “1 Youth Union accompanying 1 disabled person” is a beautiful message about a generation of young people living with ideals, responsibility and knowing how to act for a better society. Every small action, but coming from a compassionate heart, will contribute to building a community of solidarity, sharing and sustainable development.
“The model of “1 Youth Union accompanying 1 disabled person” also shows high feasibility, low implementation costs, and can be flexibly applied in both rural and urban areas. This is a model that is easy to replicate throughout the Youth Union system, creating a widespread movement, strongly spreading humanistic values to each residential area and each grassroots Youth Union organization.” (Secretary of Phu Hung Commune Union Lu Anh Dao) |
