The conference was attended by experts, the Center for Non-Timber Forest Products Research, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ; representatives of relevant departments and branches of Bac Kan province, Ba Be District People's Committee, cooperatives and bamboo growers in 03 communes of Yen Duong, Dia Linh, Khang Ninh.

Assessment of the current status of bamboo production and trading in Ba Be district shows that the district currently has about 600 hectares of bamboo growing area, mainly concentrated in the three communes mentioned above. However, the main production activity is still selling raw materials to traders without much deep processing to create diverse products.

Delegates analyzed the difficulties and challenges that are hindering the sustainable development of the bamboo industry, from production, purchasing, processing to consumption. On that basis, the conference agreed to propose many practical solutions to remove obstacles and clearly define the roles and responsibilities of relevant parties in connecting and linking; supporting organizations and individuals participating in the bamboo value chain.

Through the conference, many new directions have been opened for farmers and cooperatives operating in the bamboo sector. This is an important basis for forming a sustainable bamboo value chain, helping to increase people's income, contributing to local economic development associated with forest protection and ecological environment in Ba Be district./.
