Invite patients in laser lithotripsy cases during machine breakdown to come for health check-up

On September 21, the Central Highlands General Hospital ( Dak Lak province) said it had sent health check-up invitations to patients involved in "laser lithotripsy while the machine was broken."

Tay Nguyen General Hospital invites all patients to check their current health status. This is to detect early urinary system diseases (if any), monitor and have timely treatment measures.

The hospital invites specialists in the field of Urology from other hospitals to examine and evaluate the health of each patient.

The health check-up period takes place from September 24 to October 3 at the Examination Department, 1st floor, Building A, Tay Nguyen General Hospital. Patients are completely exempted from the cost of paraclinical examination services related to the urinary system and related arising problems.

Previously, the laser lithotripsy machine of the Central Highlands General Hospital (put into use since 2015) had reduced capacity.

The hospital "borrowed" a laser lithotripsy machine (from a company in Ho Chi Minh City) from the end of November 2023 to May 30, 2024 to treat the patient.

Of the 480 patients treated at the Department of Nephrology and Urology (from November 2023 to July 2025), 255 cases of incorrect application of the technical service code "endoscopic lithotripsy" in health insurance payments. The remaining patients were treated with other specialized measures.

The above incident was discovered on July 22, 2025, through the inspection activities of the Inspection Team of the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health on the inspection and evaluation of professional activities of the Central Highlands General Hospital.

The Department of Health has directed the Central Highlands General Hospital to overcome shortcomings and violations and review and clarify the responsibilities of related organizations and individuals.

At the same time, 3 other hospitals including Phu Yen General Hospital, Thien Hanh Hospital and Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital were assigned to send specialist doctors to participate in examination and screening to ensure objectivity of the case.

On August 20, 2025, the Disciplinary Council of the Central Highlands General Hospital reviewed and decided to discipline 3 doctors and 1 nurse related to the incident.

The Standing Committee of Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee has assigned the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee to inspect when there are signs of violations by the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Highlands General Hospital.

Dak Lak Provincial Police investigated and handled the case strictly, without any forbidden areas, without any exceptions, and in accordance with the provisions of the law.
