Tired of finding a way to live for the child

QTO - That is the pitiful situation of the family of Mr. Le Xuoc (63 years old) and Mrs. Le Thi Lanh (60 years old), in Tra Loc village, Vinh Dinh commune. Mr. Xuoc and Mrs. Lanh have 4 children, but only 1 is healthy, the other 2 suffer from chronic kidney failure and have to undergo periodic dialysis, and 1 has epilepsy. For many years, Mr. Xuoc and his wife have borrowed money everywhere and are gradually losing strength in their journey to find a way to live for their children...

In the simple level 4 house, the atmosphere of Mr. Le Xuoc's family seemed heavier with heartbreaking sighs. "This rainy season, I cannot work as a construction worker, so I have to stay home to take care of the children. My wife is the only one who makes handmade conical hats, earning only 50,000 VND a day, which is not enough to cover the expenses of 2 children who are undergoing regular dialysis and 1 child who is being treated for epilepsy. The family's economy has been exhausted, but my wife and I are determined to persevere to the end with the hope that our children will live healthy lives," Mr. Le Xuoc choked up.

37 years ago, Mr. Le Xuoc married Mrs. Le Thi Lanh and lived in his hometown of Tra Loc. At that time, in addition to farming, Mr. Xuoc also earned extra income from being a construction worker, Mrs. Lanh made conical hats, and babysat, so life was less difficult than many people in the village. In 1990, Mr. Xuoc and Mrs. Lanh welcomed their first son with boundless happiness. In 1993, Mrs. Lanh gave birth to a daughter, Le Thi Lien.

When she was born, Lien was chubby and normal like any other child, but after a few months, a terrible fever left her paralyzed on one side. Loving her, Mr. Xuoc and Mrs. Lanh sought treatment everywhere and it took nearly 6 years to help Lien recover to normal. They thought the disaster was over, but when she was 9 years old, Le Thi Lien suffered from epilepsy and the after-effects of her old illness relapsed, causing her to have limited cognition and almost all of her daily activities had to be assisted by her parents and relatives.

In 2003 and 2007, Mrs. Lanh gave birth to two more daughters. In 2017, misfortune continued to befall Mr. Xuoc's family when his first son, Le Dinh Xu (born in 1990), went to the doctor and was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. Mr. Xuoc's family had not yet overcome their sadness when in 2018, when his youngest daughter, Le Thi My Dieu (born in 2007), was in 6th grade, her health suddenly began to decline, accompanied by symptoms of jaundice and loss of appetite, so she went to the doctor and was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure.

"My wife and I have four children. When they were born, they were all normal and healthy, but unexpectedly, disasters continuously surrounded my family. For more than five years now, every month my eldest son and youngest daughter have been taking each other to Hue Central Hospital for treatment and dialysis. Recently, their illnesses have become more serious, so every week, Xu and Dieu have to undergo dialysis three times. Traveling for treatment and medicine is very expensive, but because we love our children so much, my wife and I have to run around and borrow money everywhere, just hoping that our children will stay with us...", Mr. Xuoc choked.

For many years, Mr. Xuoc and Mrs. Lanh's family's economy has only relied on 3.5 sao of rice fields and a small amount of money from construction work and hat making, so they do not have much left. Meanwhile, the expenses for family living, medicine, travel, and medical treatment for Mr. Xuoc's three children are too much compared to their income. That is why every time their children go to the doctor or for dialysis, Mr. Xuoc and Mrs. Lanh have to go back and forth to borrow money.

Due to his old age and having to do hard labor, Mr. Xuoc often has back pain, swollen and painful knees. "My health has seriously declined, but because I love my children and want them to have money for medical treatment, I have to try to make a living. I have not gone to the doctor because if I discover a serious illness that requires long-term treatment, I will not be able to take care of my children. I just hope my health will stabilize so that I can accompany my children for a long time on their journey to win their lives," Mr. Le Xuoc shared.

In recent times, the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front and the mass organizations of Vinh Dinh commune have regularly paid attention to and helped those in difficult circumstances in the locality with practical and effective actions. "In the coming time, we will make efforts to call for, mobilize and connect with benefactors to help those in difficult circumstances in the locality, including Mr. Le Xuoc's family," said Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Secretary of the Vinh Dinh Commune Youth Union Vo Thi Ngoc Diep.
