On the morning of January 22 (local time), in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the occasion of attending the 55th Annual Meeting of the WEF.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Thank you Professor K. Schwab for the exchange, inspiring speech and strong motivation for students of Hanoi National University with the topic "Positioning Vietnam in the smart era - Vision for the young generation" during the Professor's visit to Vietnam in October 2024.
The Prime Minister shared that the Politburo has just issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, identifying science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation as the top important breakthroughs, the main driving force to rapidly develop modern productive forces, perfect production relations and innovate national governance methods, and develop the socio-economy.
The Prime Minister also expressed his joy at the good developments in Vietnam and WEF relations recently, especially the inauguration of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Center in Ho Chi Minh City, and affirmed that this is an important milestone in the relationship between the two sides.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the Professor's far-reaching vision and strategy in founding the WEF and turning it into a world-leading economic forum of the largest scale and prestige, a place for many leaders of countries, organizations and large corporations in the world to exchange and discuss; affirming that the theme "Cooperation in the smart era" of the WEF in 2025 has the nature of leading, suggesting and orienting the new trend of international cooperation, and is the content that the Vietnamese Government is very interested in and prioritizing to promote.
The Prime Minister asked Professor K. Schwab to support Vietnam in implementing the policy of developing science and technology, through connecting with WEF member enterprises, experts, and scientists to develop an innovation and science and technology ecosystem with Vietnam to maximize opportunities for all parties in the smart era.
The Prime Minister also asked the WEF to support Vietnam and co-chair an annual world-scale economic forum in Ho Chi Minh City.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister invited Professor K. Schwab and representatives of WEF Leaders to attend the 4th Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G) (April 2025) and the 16th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference (October 2025) in Hanoi to share the vision and programs and initiatives for green growth of WEF.
Professor Klaus Schwab assessed that the Prime Minister's participation at this year's Conference is of special significance to the WEF and the global business community; he believes that Vietnam is playing an increasingly larger role in the process of restructuring the geopolitical situation of the region and the world.
Professor K. Schwab expressed his admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, considering Vietnam a model of economic growth and the combination of economic growth and environmental protection. The professor expressed his appreciation for the affection that the Vietnamese people and students had for him during his visit to Hanoi and the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (October 2024); he believed that the young generation of Vietnam would contribute to making Vietnam a strong economic locomotive of Asia. Professor Schwab happily accepted the invitation to arrange the P4G Conference and UNCTAD 16 in Hanoi in 2025.
In response to the Prime Minister's proposals, the WEF President affirmed that the WEF will continue to connect Vietnam with global corporations and investment funds; support Vietnam in attracting high-quality investment in Vietnam's priority areas, and support the development of high-quality human resources and innovation; affirming that the inauguration of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Center in Ho Chi Minh City is an important milestone in the relationship between the two sides.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation witnessed the ceremony to award an Honorary Doctorate from Hanoi National University to Professor Klaus Schwab.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the awarding of this title is to recognize the valuable contributions of the WEF Founder in two aspects: personally, as a person who works hard and dedicates himself wholeheartedly; and scientifically, as a person who brings out new ideas and directions, shapes the world economy, and brings benefits to the world and to all people in the world.
