According to data from the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), as of May 31, 2025, the number of biz.vn domain names was 8,274, an increase of 1,245.4% over the same period in 2024. The number of id.vn domain names was 52,381, an increase of 144.3% over the same period in 2024.
According to VNNIC, in the first 5 months of 2025, Dong Thap province was the locality with outstanding growth with more than 7,200 newly registered .vn domain names, more than 40 times higher than the same period last year. This is the result of a breakthrough in the popularization of the national domain name “.vn” in the locality.
Currently, the total number of domain names recorded in Dong Thap exceeds 11,700. The .biz.vn extension has the strongest growth rate with more than 6,500 domain names, accounting for 90% of the number of newly registered domain names in the first 5 months of this year. Followed by id.vn with 434 domain names.
"Dong Thap is a pioneer and typical locality in popularizing the national domain name "biz.vn" for business households. This is one of the localities with the strongest domain name growth rate in the country," said Mr. Do Quang Trung, Head of VNNIC branch in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Trung said that the popularization of the national domain name “biz.vn” is part of the Online Presence Program with the national domain name “.vn” according to Decision 826/QD-BTTTT dated May 21, 2024 of the Ministry of Information and Communications (now the Ministry of Science and Technology).
Accordingly, newly established enterprises within 01 year and business households are exempted from 100% of fees, registration fees, use of national domain name “biz.vn” and accompanying digital services (website, email, ...). This program helps business households build online brands, increase customer access, enhance transaction reputation and take advantage of digital platforms to develop business.
According to Mr. Trung, there are two reasons for the outstanding growth of .vn domain names in Dong Thap. Firstly, Dong Thap's success is the result of a systematic strategy, implemented synchronously from the central to local levels (from the provincial to the communal level), the synchronous coordination of 4 in 1 of the State (Ministry level); local authorities, businesses, and people.
The Department of Information and Communications (now the Department of Science and Technology) closely coordinates with VNNIC to coordinate the program to each district and commune level. The People's Committees at district and commune levels proactively organize, direct and support business households to access, register and use the national domain name ".biz.vn" and digital services. The application of technical tools developed by VNNIC helps to effectively monitor and track implementation progress.
"Thanks to strong leadership and flexible approach, the program not only supports registration but also helps businesses exploit digital platforms well," said Mr. Trung.
The second is the establishment of the Community Digital Technology Team - the core force to deploy the registration of the national domain name "biz.vn" to business households. "Thanks to being trained thoroughly, members of 684 teams across the province have a firm grasp of the benefits and value of the .vn domain name and accompanying digital services and can operate and use technical tools to support the survey of the needs of business households to register and use the national domain name "biz.vn", Mr. Trung assessed.
With the motto of “going to every alley, knocking on every door”, not only providing theoretical guidance, they directly interact with each business household in a “hands-on” manner, helping them step by step choose to register the biz.vn domain name, familiarize themselves with digital technology to set up services that come with the domain name. With flexibility and proficiency in implementation, the community digital technology team ensures that business households can quickly register and operate digital services (website, email, etc.) easily.
Mr. Trung commented that Dong Thap's success in deploying the national domain name "biz.vn" is clear evidence that digital transformation is not a distant thing but a real opportunity if approached properly.
"When the government takes decisive action, when people are wholeheartedly supported, and when technology tools are effectively applied, change will happen quickly and sustainably," shared the head of VNNIC branch.
Not only does it have a significant growth figure, the development of the national domain name “.vn” in Dong Thap has great significance for the local development and digital transformation process, establishing a model for provinces across the country. Domain names are the "home address" of each individual and business on the Internet, so when more and more people have their own "digital home", the Vietnamese digital space will be truly vibrant and profound.
Mr. Trung shared that the real success of the campaign is that people take advantage of registered domain names to build brands, sell products, promote products, and even start businesses. That is the first but extremely important step for people and small businesses to proactively and systematically enter the digital economy.
The popularization of domain names now not only opens the door for each individual to have a presence online, but also creates a solid foundation for each locality to rise up in the digital age.
