Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí30/10/2024

(Dan Tri) - By clicking on a "strange" link, a 40-year-old woman in Quang Ninh had her Telegram account taken over by a bad guy, who then monitored her conversations and stole 2 billion VND from the victim.

The Criminal Police Department (PC02 - Quang Ninh Provincial Police) said that the unit has just received a complaint from Ms. D.TP (40 years old, residing in Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh) about a bad person appropriating her property by taking control of her Telegram account.

Specifically, around mid-August, Ms. P. received a message from a Telegram account with the content " The system will detect whether your account is logged in remotely or not. Please click on the official website to re-link your mobile phone with the link http://bright888.net ".

Ms. P. reported the incident to the police (Photo: Provided by the police).

Due to lack of vigilance, Ms. P. accessed the above link. On August 8, Mr. D. (28 years old, in Ngo Quyen, Hai Phong ) contacted Ms. P. via Telegram to transfer 2 billion VND.

Ms. P. sent a Telegram message to Mr. D. with her ACB Bank account number so that Mr. D. could transfer money.

After Mr. D. transferred the money and sent a screenshot of the result, Ms. P. discovered that the receiving account was another account belonging to Eximbank.

Ms. P. and Mr. D. checked the messages and discovered that the message Mr. D. received on Telegram was not from the account number she sent, but from another account number instead.

At this time, Ms. P. realized that her Telegram account had been taken over by bad guys and her conversations were being monitored. Then the bad guys intervened and changed the account number that Ms. P. sent to Mr. D. to another account number to steal 2 billion VND.

According to PC02 Department - Quang Ninh Provincial Police, the above incident is a new online fraud method, never recorded in Quang Ninh province. Quang Ninh Provincial Police advise people to be vigilant against this new method.

People absolutely do not access strange links, do not provide personal information, OTP codes and other information as requested by subjects to avoid being exploited and having their property appropriated.

When discovering that they have been scammed using similar methods, people need to stay calm and contact the nearest police station for instructions on how to handle the situation.
