For many travelers, the most exciting part of any trip is the food . These are the travelers who wake up on the first day of their trip excited about all the culinary delights that await: from vast markets selling local delicacies to nightlife street food to independent restaurants serving up special dishes that you will never forget.
"A good or bad meal can make or break a trip — it's often one of the things we remember most," Time Out's Grace Beard told CNN.
In Time Out's ranking, the number 1 spot is Naples, Italy - the place considered the birthplace of pizza; followed by Johannesburg, South Africa; Lima, Peru and Ho Chi Minh City at number 4 with the must-eat dish: Pho.

"Sweet, spicy, aromatic – however you describe it, Vietnamese cuisine never compromises on flavour, and you can sample the best of it in Ho Chi Minh City. Beyond the street stalls and bustling markets selling banh mi, snails and com tam, there are a clutch of Bib Gourmand and Michelin-starred restaurants serving up inventive takes on classic dishes. But by far the most talked-about dish in our survey was pho. The southern dish, often garnished with basil, coriander, chilli and hoisin sauce, is ubiquitous across the city," Time Out said.
The magazine also notes that while Hanoi may be the birthplace of Vietnamese cuisine, Ho Chi Minh City has emerged as the country’s most exciting culinary destination. In District 1, there’s Anan Saigon, a Vietnamese restaurant by chef Peter Cuong Franklin that won the city’s only Michelin star last year. Not far away is Huynh Hoa, a 30-year-old street food establishment. Across the river, the old District 2 is home to a growing number of modern restaurants, including places that offer a variety of Vietnamese dishes but with Western culinary techniques.
The remaining positions in the top 20 include: Beijing, China; Bangkok, Thailand; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Mumbai, India; Dubai; Portland, USA; Liverpool, UK; Medellin, Colombia; Seville, Spain; Porto, Portugal; Marrakech, Marrocco; Lyon, France; Sydney, Australia; Montreal, Canada; Osaka, Japan and Copenhagen, Denmark.
