(VHQN) - Since ancient times, children's rhymes - folk games played while singing - have played an extremely important role in the cultural and spiritual life of children. All of this creates a unique folk cultural activity, especially during festivals and celebrations.

For many generations of Vietnamese people, childhood memories are intertwined with nursery rhymes such as "xúc xắc xúc xỉa," "thả đĩa ba ba," "rồng rắn lên mây," "nhảy lò cò," "dung đăng dung dẻ," "đúc cây dừa," "tay có tay không," "tập tầm vông," "chi chi chành chành," "nu na nu nống," etc.
Among them is a folk song that, in the past, resonated with the sounds of drums and joyful cheers every time Tet (Lunar New Year) arrived, deeply ingrained in the childhood memories of countless generations. This folk game embodies rich cultural values and traditional national values. It is the folk song "Xúc xắc xúc xẻ" (Dice, Dice), which carries the vibrant spirit of Tet.
" Dice, dice, roll"
New Year, new beginning
Which house is still awake?
Open the door for us.
Stepping onto the elevated platform, I saw a pair of dragons embracing.
Stepping down the low steps, I saw two dragons bowing.
Stepping out to the back, I saw a house with a tiled roof.
He still has his elephant tied up, his horse still under his reins.
He lived to be one hundred and five years old.
His wife gave birth to a healthy child .
Sadly, the custom of bringing bamboo tubes as New Year's gifts has disappeared, even in remote villages. The old folk song, however, reached every home during the New Year, expressing the hope for a joyful and festive celebration.
It was the children's nursery rhymes that bonded neighbors, wishing each household a prosperous, abundant, and joyful spring. These rhymes, with their simple rhythms and free rhymes, could be short or long depending on the nature of the game, or they could be endlessly repeated, creating a vivid picture of life.
Most children's games not only promote physical fitness but also offer wholesome entertainment, reaching a high level of artistry and aesthetic value, stimulating children's intelligence, quick thinking, and flexible reflexes, while also fostering a sense of community.
These folk games are preserved in the childhood memories of many generations. Through these games and rhymes, children can also gain a better understanding of life and customs in the land where they live.
Children in the past grew up innocently with meaningful folk games, combining play and learning, gradually shaping their character as they matured.
Therefore, reviving folk games in general, and children's rhymes in particular, is a desire of many people. Currently, some schools in many provinces and cities have incorporated folk games and children's rhymes into their Vietnamese folk arts lessons. This form of education is very popular with children and teenagers.
As the new year approaches, you can occasionally hear the melody of "Xúc xóc xúc xẻ" (a traditional Vietnamese children's game) echoing from some street corner...
