With the message “a small brick, a big house”, thousands of shelters from the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Bac Kan province have given strength and brought faith to poor households about a bright future.
As one of the localities with a high rate of poor households, Ba Be district has hundreds of households living in temporary, dilapidated houses or lacking housing space, many families have to live in seriously degraded houses. From the support fund of the "For the Poor" Fund, last year, the locality implemented the construction of 99 Great Solidarity houses for poor households. Each house was built at a cost of 60 million VND or more with the "3 hard" criteria: hard foundation, hard frame - walls, hard roof, ensuring safety when storms and whirlwinds occur, bringing a stable life to the beneficiaries.
To achieve the goal of eliminating 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households in the area, the Party Committee, the government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cho Don district are focusing on mobilizing maximum resources to join hands and help households in difficult circumstances to ensure housing conditions. In localities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and member organizations are focusing on promoting propaganda and mobilizing the community, units, and individuals to support the "For the Poor" Fund to prioritize supporting households with meritorious services to the revolution, poor households, and near-poor households in remote, isolated, and extremely difficult areas to build new, spacious housing. In 2025, Cho Don district aims to solve the housing shortage for 292 ethnic minority households, including eliminating 140 temporary houses and 392 dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households, and people affected by natural disasters and climate change so that everyone has safe housing.
The fact that thousands of poor, near-poor households, and families with special housing difficulties in Bac Kan province have been supported and helped to renovate and repair their houses shows the great efforts and determination of the Party Committee, the government, the active participation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio- political organizations, and the community. Each new house completed means that there will be one more poor household with stable housing, thereby feeling secure in working and producing, rising out of poverty.
Ms. Do Thi Minh Hoa - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Kan province affirmed that the participation of the community is an important factor for Bac Kan, one of the most difficult mountainous provinces in the country, to eliminate thousands of temporary and dilapidated houses for the people. From 2021 to now, the province has eliminated more than 3,700 temporary and dilapidated houses. In 2024 alone, the whole province supported the repair and construction of new solid houses for over 1,800 poor households, of which the socialized capital from the joint contributions of agencies, organizations and philanthropists was nearly 50 billion VND.
However, according to statistics, Bac Kan still has over 18,000 poor households and nearly 7,500 near-poor households, of which, according to housing criteria, there are 7,266 poor households and 937 near-poor households lacking in housing quality; 2,878 poor households and 215 near-poor households lacking in housing area. In 2025, the province aims to eliminate nearly 3,800 temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, but currently the State budget can only support about 660 houses, the remaining socialized sources are about 1,300 houses and 1,357 houses have not yet identified the source of funding.
“In the context of limited budget support, Bac Kan province hopes to continue to receive the sharing and companionship of businesses and philanthropists to help the locality have more resources to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. Each house, though small but warm and meaningful, not only helps the poor settle down but also creates motivation and strength for families to stabilize their lives and escape poverty sustainably” - Ms. Do Thi Minh Hoa shared.
