The Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune maintains sustainable poverty eradication.

In its role of uniting the entire nation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Dong commune has continuously innovated and created, making social welfare work a practical action program. From mobilizing the "For the Poor" Fund with resources reaching hundreds of millions of dong... to jointly assisting people affected by natural disasters with billions of dong, the Son Dong Fatherland Front has joined forces with the locality to maintain the eradication of poverty and near-poverty.

Spreading the warmth of human kindness with great force.

To ensure the effectiveness of social welfare work, the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune has flexibly strengthened its organization and reformed its operating methods, creating high consensus from the grassroots to the commune level. The Standing Committee of the Fatherland Front of the commune has proactively organized conferences and meetings to promptly listen to, understand, and reflect the legitimate aspirations and concerns of the people. This helps ensure that social welfare policies are not interrupted, but are implemented concretely and deeply into each residential area.

The "For the Poor" Fund is a place where the warmth of human kindness converges and spreads strongly in Son Dong, fully demonstrating the spirit of "mutual support" and the responsibility of each citizen towards the community and towards those in difficult circumstances who need care and assistance.

As the organizing committee, the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune has organized many practical fundraising campaigns, mobilizing admirable resources, with a total amount raised during the year exceeding 700 million VND. Of that amount, 350 million VND was allocated to key social welfare activities: building and repairing two solidarity houses; and providing gifts to students and families in difficult circumstances.

According to Nguyen Thi Thanh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son Dong commune, for families facing particularly difficult circumstances, a house is not just a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also a source of spiritual security, a support system to help them overcome feelings of inferiority, work with peace of mind, and integrate into the community. The handover of these "homes" was carried out in a solemn and warm atmosphere, demonstrating the profound concern of the entire political system and the whole community.

The spirit of sharing was further illuminated during the "National Unity Day" in residential areas. Besides commending outstanding collectives and individuals, the Vietnam Fatherland Front paid special attention to disadvantaged families, giving gifts to 100 households totaling 50 million VND. These gifts, though small, contained great affection, giving them more faith and motivation to strive for a better life.

Son Dong's social welfare work also demonstrates thoughtfulness and care for all groups, from the elderly and children to families receiving preferential treatment. The Fatherland Front of the commune always plays a good bridging role in the "Gratitude and Repayment" work. The Fatherland Front actively coordinates with the local government and agencies to mobilize and organize visits and gift-giving to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and families receiving preferential treatment, with a total amount of over 30 million VND. Working alongside the Fatherland Front, the Farmers' Association of the commune also contributed, donating 218 gifts worth 69.5 million VND during the Lunar New Year, a thoughtful gesture that has instilled confidence and warmth in those receiving preferential treatment.

In particular, when people in the North, Central, and Central Highlands regions faced natural disasters, storms, and floods, the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune quickly launched a relief campaign. The spirit of "mutual support and compassion" spread strongly, and the commune's relief fund mobilized over 900 million VND in cash. Even more admirable, the joint efforts of agencies, units, and philanthropists transformed Son Dong into a major donation center: Goods, necessities, books (estimated at approximately 1.5 billion VND) and cash (approximately 200 million VND) were directly delivered to the affected areas. The total value of donations, estimated at 2.6 billion VND, is a testament to the boundless compassion of the people of Son Dong.

In addition, the Fatherland Front of the commune did not forget the noble task of protecting sovereignty , organizing a fundraising campaign for the "For Vietnam's Seas and Islands" Fund, raising 168.5 million VND, which was promptly sent to various levels to support the military and civilians serving in the front lines.

Multidimensional well-being

To realize the goal of sustainably eradicating poverty, the Vietnam Fatherland Front (MTTQ) has closely coordinated with its member organizations, especially the Farmers' Association, to implement high-quality livelihood support models. Instead of just providing "fish," the member units of the MTTQ at the commune level have focused on giving members "fishing rods" and guiding them on how to "fish" through coordination with the Social Policy Bank and the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to facilitate loan disbursement.

Specifically, the commune's Farmers' Association has actively trained its officials and members in financial management knowledge and consulting skills, helping farmers access capital and scientific and technical knowledge to transform production models and adapt to the context of urbanization. According to Do Van Toan, Chairman of the Son Dong Commune Farmers' Association, the movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has created a strong shift in the economic thinking of the people. The entire commune has 1,438 households achieving the title of "Excellent Farmers in Production and Business" at the grassroots level, 32 households at the city level, and 3 households at the central level. The spread of effective economic models by the commune's farmers has led to the overall progress of the entire commune.

Meanwhile, the Women's Union of the commune continues to implement the "Godmother" program, mobilizing philanthropists to sponsor 6 orphaned children in the area, supporting each child with 500,000 VND/month; helping 16 disadvantaged households headed by women access preferential loans to invest in economic development; managing preferential capital up to 70 billion VND, providing loans to 1,399 women members.

Social welfare work is not just about providing material support, but also about creating a civilized and safe living environment. The Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune has promoted the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" as a regular activity. The voluntary participation of 28 residential areas in general environmental sanitation and maintaining "bright, green, clean, beautiful, and safe" roads has demonstrated the strong vitality of the great unity. In particular, the commune's Youth Union also implemented two youth projects at the flower gardens of Hamlet 1 and Hamlet 2 in Song Phuong, and an outdoor sports facility at the cultural center in Xa Hamlet, totaling over 70 million VND, to serve community activities and improve the spiritual life of the people in the area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Dong Commune, further shared that, recognizing health as the foundation of social security, the Fatherland Front has coordinated and actively participated in mobilizing the entire population to participate in health insurance. The decisive involvement of the entire political system has yielded impressive results: over 95% of the people participate in health insurance. This is an important achievement, creating a "safety net" for the health of most people. In addition, the Fatherland Front of the commune also sends volunteers to wholeheartedly support people in filling out applications for social retirement benefits, ensuring that the elderly receive full benefits and live happily and healthily with the care of the community.

To ensure multifaceted social welfare coverage, the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune continues to successfully mobilize specialized funds, caring for specific target groups: the Children's Protection Fund, the Education and Talent Promotion Fund (caring for the future generation), the Elderly Care and Development Fund, and the Fund for Victims of Agent Orange. The diversity in mobilization efforts demonstrates a comprehensive and humane social welfare strategy.

Thanks to effective and practical efforts, the material and spiritual lives of the people of Son Dong have been significantly improved, with the average income of the entire commune reaching 91 million VND/person/year in 2025. Maintaining the status of a commune with no poor or near-poor households has created a balanced social foundation, an important prerequisite for Son Dong to move forward on the path to becoming a ward in the near future.

Nguyen Truc Anh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Son Dong commune, affirmed: 2025 was the first year of implementing a two-tiered local government system with many challenges, but the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune also achieved remarkable successes. Through the excellent implementation of social welfare work, the Fatherland Front of the commune has played a good role as a reliable bridge between the Party, the government and the people, consolidating the great national unity. The success of the Fatherland Front of Son Dong commune is not only measured by its efforts in helping the locality maintain poverty and near-poverty eradication, or by the billions of dong raised in funds, but also by the increasing trust and satisfaction of the people. The smooth coordination between the Fatherland Front, the People's Council, the People's Committee and member organizations has created an effective and comprehensive social welfare mechanism, caring for all aspects of life.

Each "solidarity" house built, each gift distributed, each policy implemented and successfully carried out serves as a bridge connecting love, a powerful intrinsic resource that helps Son Dong commune confidently and steadily move forward on the path of civilized and sustainable urban development in the coming years.
