Legendary racer Michael Schumacher has 150 artifacts up for auction from August 16 to September 6.

Full Throttle is the title of a collection being auctioned by Sotheby's, consisting of about 150 artifacts of famous racer Michael Schumacher.

The auction began on August 16 and will end today (September 6), with the RF1 motorcycle helmet he once wore fetching a final bid of 63,000 Euros (US$67,600) from an anonymous bidder.

This is a record price for a racing helmet, priced 10 times higher than helmets belonging to other legendary racing drivers that have been auctioned.

The RF1 carbon fibre helmet was worn by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher in many of his races with Ferrari, notably at the 2005 French Grand Prix, where he finished third overall.

It has also been neatly signed by Michael on the top back in black pen, which is rare as most helmets are signed in white pen on the visor.

The helmet he wore in 2005 sold for a record $67,600.

The RF1 helmet is believed to be the most valuable of the four confirmed to have been worn by Schumacher in 2005.

There are 150 artifacts from Schumacher's career, accumulated by a Japanese man who is passionate about F1 cars and admires Michael Schumacher's career.

Among these are 75 items of racing clothing and equipment from Schumacher's early days in go-karting through his first season in F1 in 1989, all the way up to the highest levels of F1 competition later on.

The early 2000s were a prosperous period for Ferrari, with Schumacher winning five consecutive world championships from 2000 to 2004.
