The spring-summer corn crop of 2025 is identified as the main crop of the year, which is important in ensuring output and feed sources for livestock. From the beginning of the crop, Mu Cang Chai district has closely directed and assigned specific targets to each locality with a total planting area of up to 4,250 hectares in the district.

Of which, 13/13 communes and towns simultaneously deployed planting with the main varieties including: CP511, CP512, CP519, AG59, NK4300, NK6253... along with high-quality native glutinous corn and non-glutinous corn varieties such as: MX4, MX6, MX10. Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in many villages mobilized manpower to weed, fertilize, and hill up corn... important tasks to help plants grow and develop well.

In Pung Luong commune - one of the localities with large corn areas in the district, people are focusing on taking care of 105 hectares of corn with many high-yield varieties such as: CP511, CP519, AG59. 100% of the commune's corn area is intensively cultivated by people with 2 crops per year.

Ms. Giang Thi Bla, a resident of Na Hang Tua Chu village, said: "My family planted nearly 1 hectare of CP511 corn. It has been sunny these past few days, so my family and I went to the fields to weed, fertilize and take care of the corn according to the staff's instructions. This is an important stage. If we take good care of it, the corn will grow quickly and have fewer pests and diseases."

In addition to cultivating and fertilizing, farmers in the commune also pay attention to using pesticides according to the correct process to ensure support for corn to grow and develop well. Thanks to that, the productivity and output of corn in Pung Luong commune has continuously increased with each crop. Corn has become the main source of income for many households in the commune.

According to Mr. Thao A Pao - Chairman of the People's Committee of Pung Luong Commune, the current weather is quite erratic, hot during the day and thunderstorms in the afternoon, which are favorable conditions for pests and diseases such as stem borers, leaf spots, and wilting. "Commune officials have advised people to regularly check corn fields, and if pests are detected, they should immediately notify them for instructions on spraying pesticides properly to avoid spreading. At the same time, people should take advantage of the sunny weather to fertilize and cultivate in time..." - Mr. Pao emphasized.

Not only focusing on taking care of plants according to the correct technical process, farmers in Mu Cang Chai district are also highly aware of using pesticides, ensuring safety for crops and the environment. Technical staff of the district's Department of Agriculture and Environment also regularly stay close to the grassroots, supporting people from land preparation, seed selection to pest control techniques.

Mr. Hoang Van Han - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Mu Cang Chai district commented: "Thanks to timely planting, using good seeds and proper care, corn is currently growing very well, with no water shortage or widespread pests. If we continue to maintain the current progress and techniques, by mid-July, the whole district will enter harvest, promising a high-yield crop."

With the characteristics of a mountainous district, production conditions are still difficult, but in recent years, Mu Cang Chai people have gradually formed the mindset of commodity production, choosing suitable crops, investing in intensive farming to improve economic efficiency. Corn is not only an essential food source but also an important raw material for livestock - a growing industry in this mountainous district.

Actively taking care of the spring-summer corn crop of 2025 shows the proactive spirit and innovation in thinking and working of Mu Cang Chai farmers. This is an important premise to contribute to ensuring food security, developing sustainable livestock farming and increasing income for people in the highlands.
