Dream trio

MU is entering the 2025/26 season with a completely new look on the attack line, having almost completed a blockbuster contract named Benjamin Sesko .

Although Newcastle made a more attractive offer to RB Leipzig, the Slovenian striker chose to play for the Red Devils.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sesko has reached a personal agreement with MU, with a contract lasting until June 2030, only waiting for RB Leipzig to nod at the price of 85 million euros to officially complete the deal.

The recruitment of Sesko marks a spectacular sprint by the Old Trafford team in the transfer market this summer.

Previously, MU brought Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford - total value 150 million euros.

If the Sesko deal is completed, MU will spend a total of 235 million euros just for 3 attacking players.

What does this figure say? Sir Jim Ratcliffe has cut back on extraneous expenses, but is not afraid to spend big in his determination to renew the squad, especially the attack, after the most disappointing season of the Premier League era.

Last season, Rasmus Hojlund tried hard but could not meet expectations, while Joshua Zirkzee and the backup options did not leave much of an impression.

The lack of a top striker has caused MU to lose points at many important moments in the Premier League.

This spread to the Europa League, where United lost the final at San Mames to Tottenham – a team also in crisis in the Premier League, so Ange Postecoglou lost her job right after the European Cup (Thomas Frank replaced her).

Therefore, the appearance of the trio Sesko - Cunha - Mbeumo promises to open a brighter new chapter for coach Ruben Amorim's team.

The Portuguese tactician has invested in developing his favourite football, with little trace of his predecessor Erik ten Hag.

Waiting for MU's transformation

Sesko is the modern striker: tall, agile, good at finishing and capable of playing as a wall.

Last season, he scored 13 goals and provided five assists in the Bundesliga. In two seasons, his shot accuracy in Germany's top flight was 53.2% and 43.9% – quite impressive.

More importantly, Sesko has the potential to reach the world level, which MU needs to build a long-term foundation - aiming to win the Premier League in 2028 as Sir Ratcliffe proposed.

Meanwhile, Cunha offers mobility on the left flank. The Brazilian can also play as an attacking midfielder – in which case Patrick Dorgu or someone else can attack the flanks.

Cunha has been outstanding at Wolves. The former Atletico Madrid man has good individual technique and the ability to handle tight spaces, making him suitable for the high-speed pressing and ball-moving system that Ruben Amorim demands.

Mbeumo is another dangerous drill on the right wing. The Cameroon international stands out with his speed, ability to penetrate, move into the middle and then launch decisive shots.

At Brentford last season, he scored 12 goals and had 9 assists in the Premier League - impressive statistics considering the strength of the modest London team.

Three signings, three different styles, but they complement each other in a flexible system.

With the emergence of the spearhead Sesko, Cunha and Mbeumo operate more freely on the wings or drop deep to support.

Furthermore, when Sesko drops back – he created 19 chances, completed 25 final-third passes and delivered nine into the box in the Bundesliga – there is space for Cunha or Mbeumo to get into the box and shoot, or for Bruno Fernandes to come from behind.

This diversity makes United more unpredictable in their attacking options, something they have lacked in recent years. At least in theory.

With expectation comes pressure. 235 million euros for 3 attacking players means the board has absolute faith in this reform.

Fans have every right to dream, but it is not easy to forgive if these contracts do not perform to their full potential. The pressure at Old Trafford is always high, when a mistake can never be recovered.

After all, after a long period of instability, MU is full of ambition. After the trio of Cunha - Sesko - Mbeumo, Ruben Amorim is waiting for a quality goalkeeper and midfielder to reap victory.
