Heavy rain, Huong River water exceeds flood peak of 2020

According to the reporter's records, on the morning of November 15, the whole province of Thua Thien - Hue still had very heavy rain, most of the roads in Hue city were flooded, most of the motorbikes had to be pushed because the engine died. In particular, the roads of Ba Trieu, Phan Chu Trinh, Hung Vuong, Phan Dinh Phung, Hai Trieu, Nguyen Huu Canh... were flooded from 0.5 - 1.5 m deep, people could only use boats to move.

*Many places are deeply flooded, water flows rapidly*

At 10:00 a.m. on November 15, the water level of the Huong River was 4.21 m high, exceeding alert level 3 and the 2020 flood peak (4.17 m). The water level of the Bo River was near alert level 3.

In low-lying districts such as Quang Dien, Phong Dien, Phu Loc, Phu Vang, etc., tens of thousands of houses were deeply flooded.

Last night, flood water rose rapidly, many people in low-lying areas had to rush to escape the flood and evacuate to safety.

“On the night of November 14, it rained very heavily. The whole family had to stay up all night to move furniture up high, and at the same time, take their young children to a relative's house to stay temporarily to avoid flooding,” said Nguyen Xuan Vung (31 years old, residing in Thuy Thanh commune, Huong Thuy town).

Police forces went to flooded areas to bring people to safety, some pregnant women were assisted to the hospital.

Due to heavy rain and rising floodwaters, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien - Hue has announced that students in the entire province will be off school on November 15.

Floodwaters also overflowed National Highway 1A, passing through Loc Tri Commune, Phu Loc District, causing traffic difficulties. Authorities used specialized vehicles to help people on motorbikes cross the flooded area on the highway. Earlier, on the afternoon of November 14, heavy rain and a tornado caused the roofs of four houses in Lang Co Town, Phu Loc District to be blown off.

On the morning of November 15, the People's Committee of Phu Loc district directed the evacuation of more than 100 households in landslide-prone areas in the communes of Loc Tien, Loc Binh, Loc Tri, Loc Dien... to safety.

According to authorities, the flood forecast in Thua Thien - Hue is still complicated today, when the water level of the Huong River is forecast to rise +4.5 m, exceeding the flood peak in 2022.
