Long An: Sustainable pig herd development
In the context of difficulties in the livestock industry due to disease and rising feed prices, Long An has implemented many solutions to develop sustainable pig herds. As of the end of May, the province had over 550,000 pigs, up 7% compared to the previous year. Districts such as Duc Hoa and Can Giuoc are leading thanks to favorable conditions and investment in infrastructure.
Farm owner Nguyen Van Hung said that thanks to preferential loan policies, he has invested in modern barns, maintaining 1,500 pigs and providing 300 tons of meat each year. The province also supports farmers through subsidized breeding and feed programs, along with organizing technical training courses.
To cope with the epidemic, Long An has established safe zones and fully vaccinated. The province is also aiming to export pork, with some businesses having achieved export standards certification to Japan and South Korea.
