Ho Van Phuong Tam was shirtless and had unusual behavior after breaking the Nguyen Dynasty throne, noon on May 24.

The Government Office on May 25 conveyed the above direction of Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh. The results of handling the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals must be reported to the Prime Minister before June 1.

Hue City was assigned to promptly inspect and evaluate the technical condition of the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, and from there propose solutions for preservation and restoration. The locality will conduct a comprehensive review, strengthen management, and protect the security and safety of the Hue ancient capital and the national relics and treasures there.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested localities and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop prevention plans to prevent similar incidents from happening.

The Nguyen Dynasty throne located in Thai Hoa Palace is a unique artifact with many historical and cultural values. The throne is 101 cm high, 72 cm wide, and 87 cm long. The base is 118 cm long, 90 cm wide, and 20 cm high. Above the throne is a splendid gilded canopy. All are made of wood painted red and gilded. In January 2016, the throne was recognized as a national treasure.

At noon on May 24, Ho Van Phuong Tam, 42 years old, from Huong Long ward, Phu Xuan district, Hue city bought a ticket to enter the Hue Imperial City. When arriving at Thai Hoa Palace, Tam showed unusual behavior and was invited by security guards to the back of the palace.

However, Tam then returned and sneaked into the area displaying the Nguyen Dynasty throne. He screamed and broke the front left armrest of the throne.

To prevent Tam from acting rashly and destroying other exhibits, security guards approached from a distance, reminded him to go outside, and requested additional support. At 12:10, Tam was subdued.

Through camera extraction and initial investigation, authorities determined that at the time of the incident, two security guards, Dang Quang Long and Dao Hoang Vu, were both present in the Thai Hoa Palace area.

Dong Ba Ward Police have drawn up a report with Tam, but have not been able to record his statement because he showed signs of psychosis, screaming, talking nonsense, and not answering the investigator's questions.
