Previously, at around 4:00 p.m. on May 23, fisherman Vo Tan Nuoc (born in 1969, Binh Dinh province) - a crew member on fishing boat BD 98967 TS, experienced pain in the left lower back, with spasms. Because his condition did not improve after using painkillers, the fisherman was taken by the fishing boat to Truong Sa island for emergency treatment at 8:30 p.m. on May 25.
At Truong Sa Island, doctors examined and diagnosed the patient with left renal colic, grade II renal pelvis dilation due to kidney stones, urinary tract infection and high blood pressure.

Doctors performed emergency measures including pain relief, smooth muscle relaxation, blood pressure reduction, intravenous fluids, and antibiotics.
