With a clear voice, People's Armed Forces Hero Nguyen Van Tau said: "The Southeast battlefield is a place close to the enemy's lair, so in the first phase of the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of Mau Than 1968, the battles were fierce; our army had many resounding victories, but also suffered many sacrifices and losses.
Therefore, in order to deploy the second phase of the general offensive, some Party committees and unit and local commanders in the area showed concerns. Receiving orders from superiors, I promptly investigated and provided intelligence information about the enemy situation, as a basis for Party committees and commanders at all levels to make a determination to fight, and have practical leadership and direction measures."

The battlefield situation at that time was very tense. Along the routes from Tay Ninh to Saigon, the enemy spread out posts and outposts everywhere, checking, searching, arresting, and destroying people with suspicious signs.
Colonel Nguyen Van Tau said: "Immediately after receiving the assignment, I urgently prepared, then took a mobile motorbike from Tay Ninh to the inner city of Saigon. Upon arriving in Saigon, I connected with my comrades in the H63 Intelligence Group and, using professional measures, I met an office staff in the enemy's cabinet in Saigon. Through conversation and exchange, this staff showed me a document, requesting that I only be able to view it for 10-15 minutes and not to copy it in any form. Reading the document quickly, I seemed to swallow every word and grasp the core content. I was extremely happy but suppressed my emotions and appeared calm. I assessed that the enemy was very worried if we continued to launch the second phase of the general offensive. Having grasped this special information, I immediately transferred it to the superior commander at the front. From this intelligence information, the units and localities built up the determination to fight strongly in the second phase of the general offensive. As a result of the second phase, we continued to strike fatal blows at the enemy, gaining many great victories, forcing the US to change its strategy...".
That is one of the many profound memories of Colonel, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Van Tau in intelligence activities during the resistance war against the US to save the country. Talking about the secret and experience to successfully complete the mission, he affirmed: "In all circumstances, I always have absolute faith in the victory of the revolution, absolute trust in the leadership of the Party. A good intelligence worker must also be a good mass mobilization worker. Especially, every time I approach the enemy to collect intelligence, I consider myself a sacrifice."
