RT reported on May 18 that Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US does not want negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to drag on indefinitely, stressing that Washington expects concrete results.

"On the one hand, we are trying to achieve peace and end all these wars that are deadly, costly and destructive to the country, which requires patience. But on the other hand, we don't have time to waste. There are a lot of other issues going on in the world that we need to take care of as well. So we don't want to get into this endless negotiation process. There has to be some progress, some movement forward," Rubio added.

According to Mr. Rubio, the US will consider ceasefire proposals from Russia and Ukraine . "If those proposals have realistic and reasonable ideas, I think we have made progress," the US diplomat emphasized.

Secretary of State Rubio confirmed that the US is ready to impose additional sanctions on Russia if no agreement is reached.

According to the White House, Secretary of State Rubio spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on May 17, reiterating US President Donald Trump's call for an immediate ceasefire.

Moscow has rejected a proposal for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, insisting that talks must address the root causes of the conflict, including Ukraine 's aspirations to join NATO - which Russia sees as a threat to its national security.
