According to the New York Times , the Houston Fire Department said the accident occurred in the city's Greater East End area at 7:54 p.m. on October 20 (local time).

At a press conference the same day, Houston police chief J. Noe Diaz said that all four people on the helicopter were killed, including a child, and there were no casualties on the ground.
Sheriff Diaz said the families of those killed had not yet been notified. The helicopter's flight plan was unclear.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire called it a "tragic scene" but said he was "lucky it wasn't worse." There were no gas stations or homes around the scene of the crash.

Eric Chaney, who lives nearby, said the crash felt like an earthquake, shaking his house and causing power outages.
“ I heard what sounded like fireworks and when I looked up, I saw the tower on fire and collapsing ,” said Mr. Elsaadi, 42.
Mr. Elsaadi drove a few blocks to the crash site. He arrived at the fenced-off area and saw pieces of the tower lying on the ground and the surrounding grass scorched.
Liam Coghlan, 41, said: "The helicopter came down like a fireball. It was terrifying! "
