Representatives of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board have just informed about the project to build the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao metro line.

Accordingly, on December 16, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son signed a decision approving the adjustment of the investment policy for the Hanoi Urban Railway Construction Project, Line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section (Line 2.1). This is an important traffic route, contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable public transport system for the capital.

Contents of approval of adjustment of project investment policy include:

The total length of the line is 11.5km, including 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated, with 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations.

The means of transport includes 10 trains with 4 carriages, 1,435mm gauge double-track railway and 1 depot area in Xuan Dinh - Bac Tu Liem with an area of ​​17.5 hectares.

Preliminary total project investment: 35,588 billion VND (increased by more than 80% compared to the original). Of which, ODA capital borrowed from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under special loan conditions for economic partners (STEP): 167,079 million yen (equivalent to 29,672 billion VND); counterpart capital from Hanoi city budget: 5,916 billion VND. Project implementation period from 2009 - 2031.

"After the investment policy adjustment is approved, the project will re-mobilize general consultants to adjust the project for the City People's Committee to approve and start construction from 2025," informed a representative of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.

Metro Line 2 forms an important backbone, connecting the inner city, Noi Bai Airport and the northern urban area of ​​Hanoi. The entire route includes the following sections: Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao (Line 2.1), Tran Hung Dao - Thuong Dinh (Line 2.2), Noi Bai - Nam Thang Long (Line 2.3).

"Not only does it bring benefits in terms of transportation and the environment, this urban railway also plays an important role in the development of tourism and urban architecture of the capital.

The planning of Line 2, combining radial and belt routes, not only increases connectivity but also helps disperse passengers away from the central area, shortens travel time and optimizes the efficiency of the entire system.
