Grasp the situation, proactively prevent and fight crime

Enhance the role and responsibility of the communal police force in preventing and fighting crime, absolutely not allowing the formation of gangs and hot spots of security and order. This is the request of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of Inspection Team No. 4 of the Ministry of Public Security at the working session with Can Tho City Police on Public Security work in 2025, which took place on the afternoon of November 14.

Concluding the working session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long emphasized that Can Tho is a large area with many potential complex factors regarding security and order. Therefore, the work of grasping the situation and synchronously deploying solutions for proactive prevention must be given top priority, especially enhancing the role and responsibility of the communal police force. The police of units and localities need to seriously absorb and promptly overcome the shortcomings and limitations pointed out by the Inspection Team; must develop plans and roadmaps to overcome shortcomings and shortcomings, and get to the core of the shortcomings to propose appropriate and effective solutions and measures.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long directed that it is necessary to strengthen the management of drug addicts. The staff work and direction must be "thorough and thorough", improving the effectiveness of the fight against and prevention of crime. The Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the City Police need to further strengthen the inspection, supervision and evaluation of the Police of units and localities; and develop monthly and quarterly topics.

Praising the achievements of Can Tho City Police in recent times, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long assessed that after the merger, security work was proactively deployed by the City Police, avoiding passivity and surprise; the work of building forces was focused on and well implemented. Currently, the Commune Police have basically stabilized, and logistics work has been well maintained. The Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Can Tho City Police pay attention to the lives of officers and soldiers.

Emphasizing that Can Tho is the "heart and center of the Southwest region", Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long requested that each officer and soldier must make efforts and strive to be worthy of being a People's Public Security officer; the Ministry's professional departments continue to strengthen coordination and support the Can Tho City Police in all aspects of work.

Reporting at the working session, Can Tho City Police said that in recent times, the unit has proactively grasped the situation, effectively carried out staff work with the Party Committee and the government to direct measures to maintain political security and social order and safety. The police force has ensured absolute safety for political, economic and social events; synchronously deployed plans to prevent and combat crimes and social evils, contributing to maintaining stability in the area, preventing sudden and unexpected incidents.

Since the merger, the political security situation in the area has been stable. The number of crimes has decreased by 7.1%; in particular, the number of very serious and especially serious crimes has decreased by 20.6%. The rate of crime investigation and clarification has reached 78.9%. The work of building forces and logistics has been seriously implemented, ensuring good policies and regimes, and taking care of the lives of officers and soldiers.

Major General Huynh Viet Hoa, Director of Can Tho City Police Department, seriously accepted the direction of the Ministry of Public Security and the limitations pointed out by the Inspection Team. The City Police Department will promptly direct the Police of units and localities to overcome all the limitations pointed out in the shortest time.

Previously, on November 10-11, Inspection Team No. 4 of the Ministry of Public Security worked directly with the Police of a number of units and the Police of 6 communes and wards under the Can Tho City Police to inspect and evaluate aspects of work in 2025. At the working sessions, members of the Inspection Team frankly discussed the contents of the inspection; acknowledged that the Police of units and localities basically performed well their functions and tasks, complied with regulations, and contributed to ensuring security and order. The work of fighting, preventing crimes, investigating and solving cases was carried out in accordance with regulations; the indicators of Public Security work basically met the requirements.
