Assess the situation, proactively prevent and combat crime.

Enhancing the role and responsibility of commune-level police forces in crime prevention and control, and absolutely preventing the formation of gangs and hotspots of security and order issues – this was the requirement of Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of Inspection Team No. 4 of the Ministry of Public Security, at a working session with the Can Tho City Police on police work in 2025, held on the afternoon of November 14th.

Concluding the working session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long emphasized that Can Tho is a large area with many potential complexities regarding security and order. Therefore, monitoring the situation and implementing comprehensive solutions for proactive prevention must be prioritized, especially enhancing the role and responsibility of the commune-level police force. Police units and localities need to seriously consider and promptly address the shortcomings and limitations pointed out by the inspection team; they must develop plans and roadmaps to overcome these deficiencies, focusing on the root causes to propose appropriate and effective solutions and measures.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long directed that the management of drug addicts needs to be strengthened. Regarding advisory and directive work, it must be thorough and effective in combating and preventing crime. The Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the City Police Department need to further strengthen inspection, supervision, and evaluation of police units and localities; and develop monthly and quarterly thematic reports.

Commending the achievements of the Can Tho City Police in the past period, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long assessed that, after the merger, security work has been proactively implemented by the City Police, preventing any passive or unexpected situations; the work of building the force has been given attention and implemented well. Currently, the commune-level police have basically stabilized, and logistics work is well maintained. The Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Can Tho City Police pay attention to the lives of officers and soldiers.

Emphasizing that Can Tho is "the heart and center of the Southwestern region," Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long requested that every officer and soldier strive to be worthy of being a People's Police officer; and that the professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security continue to strengthen coordination and support for the Can Tho City Police in all aspects of their work.

Reporting at the meeting, the Can Tho City Police Department stated that in the past period, the unit had proactively grasped the situation and effectively advised the Party Committee and the government on measures to maintain political security and social order. The police force ensured absolute safety for political, economic, and social events; implemented comprehensive plans to prevent and combat crime and social evils, contributing to maintaining stability in the area and preventing any unexpected incidents.

Since the merger, the political and security situation in the area has remained stable. The number of criminal offenses decreased by 7.1%; in particular, the number of very serious and especially serious crimes decreased by 20.6%. The crime investigation and clarification rate reached 78.9%. The work of building up the force and logistics has been seriously implemented, ensuring good policies and benefits, and taking care of the lives of officers and soldiers.

Major General Huynh Viet Hoa, Director of the Can Tho City Police, seriously acknowledged the directives from the Ministry of Public Security and the shortcomings pointed out by the inspection team. The City Police Directorate will promptly direct police units and localities to rectify all identified shortcomings as soon as possible.

Previously, on November 10-11, Inspection Team No. 4 of the Ministry of Public Security worked directly with the police forces of several units and six communes/wards under the Can Tho City Police Department to inspect and evaluate various aspects of their work in 2025. During these meetings, the members of the Inspection Team frankly discussed the inspected issues; acknowledging that the police forces in the units and localities generally performed their functions and duties well, complied with regulations, and contributed to ensuring security and order. The fight against crime, investigation, and resolution of cases were carried out in accordance with regulations; and the targets for police work were basically met.
