Three days before being admitted to the hospital, a 20-year-old man in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho had pain in his right scrotum, which gradually increased and spread from under the scrotum to the upper abdomen.
Doctors at Phu Tho General Hospital clinically examined and performed Doppler ultrasound of the testicles, diagnosed right testicular torsion and indicated emergency surgery.
During the surgery, the doctor checked that the right testicle was black and purple, necrotic due to the spermatic cord twisting twice clockwise. Realizing that the testicle would not recover, the doctor had to remove the right testicle and fix the left testicle.

According to MSc. Dr. Nong Van Thinh - Department of Nephrology and Urology, Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital, testicular torsion is a pathological condition that occurs due to the spermatic cord being twisted around its axis, causing blockage of the blood vessels supplying the testicles, leading to testicular necrosis if not untwisted promptly.
This is a vascular emergency, so it needs to be examined, detected and treated early, within 6 hours of the onset of pain in the groin area. If not treated promptly (within 4-6 hours of testicular torsion), the testicle will become infarcted and necrotic, which will lead to testicular amputation.
Symptoms seen in most patients are sudden swelling and pain in one side of the scrotum, the pain gradually increases, tends to spread upwards, when holding the testicle up, the pain feels like it increases in intensity.
Doctor Thinh recommends that testicular torsion is a surgical emergency, patients need early emergency intervention, so when there are symptoms of sudden pain in the scrotum, patients need to quickly go to specialized medical facilities for examination, accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.
