Improve the economic efficiency of production and business of agricultural cooperatives

(CT) - The Scientific Council chaired by the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City has just accepted the project "Research on solutions to improve the economic efficiency of production and business of agricultural cooperatives (HTXNN) in Hau Giang province (old)". The project was chaired by Can Tho City Political School, with Dr. Le Van Tuyen as the head.

The research team conducted a survey and evaluated the current state of production and business activities of agricultural cooperatives in Hau Giang province (old). The results showed that the activities of cooperatives are mainly water pumping services, providing agricultural seeds, linking agricultural product consumption, land preparation services... The average profit of cooperatives with service activities is 189 million VND/year. The main obstacles in the operation of cooperatives are: small scale of operation; lack of capital to expand production scale; limited facilities; management capacity of most cooperatives does not meet the demand; cooperative governance model does not keep up with today's requirements; organization of service provision for members is not comprehensive, there is a large difference between cooperatives.

Thereby, the topic focuses on solving 5 major issues: strengthening and innovating the organization and leadership of cooperatives; improving management and operation capacity; paying attention and paying attention to service provision; enhancing the connectivity of cooperatives; increasing training and propaganda for members. The topic has implemented experimental solutions in 3 cooperatives. After applying the proposed solutions, the awareness of cooperative members has been raised; the organization of service provision and the operation of cooperatives has become increasingly tight and stable.

All three cooperatives have taken advantage of and expanded their ability to mobilize capital and effectively used capital in investment; thereby increasing revenue and profit. In particular, the shift in thinking from “agricultural production” to “agricultural economics ” is clearly demonstrated.

Experimental results at 3 cooperatives after 12 months showed positive changes: profits and number of members increased by over 20%. In addition, the project also implemented solutions to replicate the model, contributing to the development and effective operation of agricultural cooperatives.
