The main lotus varieties grown are pink lotus for seeds, Japanese lotus for tubers and imported lotus varieties for flowers... Every lotus blooming season, people not only harvest flowers and seeds but also make the most of each part such as: shoots, leaves, hearts, mirrors to make food and medicine. In order to improve economic efficiency, people have proactively expanded the lotus growing area, at the same time, facilities processing lotus products have proactively invested in machinery to mechanize the production stages, creating products that meet OCOP standards..., thereby enhancing the value and brand of Hung Yen lotus.
In order to improve quality and expand consumption markets, in recent times, localities have actively coordinated with departments, branches and specialized units to implement research projects, apply high technology, transfer technical advances in production, and at the same time, focus on supporting organizations and individuals in production with specific solutions such as: Orientation and consultation on upgrading and perfecting products towards quality standardization; management and supervision of quality standards; support for training, technical guidance, brand building, trade promotion, product promotion...
In 2023, the Intellectual Property Office granted the Certificate of Registration of the "Hung Yen Lotus" Certification Mark. This is the result of a provincial-level science and technology task to create, manage and develop the "Hung Yen Lotus" certification mark for lotus products of Hung Yen province, laying the foundation for brand development, households, production facilities, cooperatives (HTX) growing and processing lotus products in compliance with regulations on the use of certification marks; at the same time, paying attention to investing in building Hung Yen lotus products to achieve OCOP certification of 3 stars or higher as well as registering trademarks, making electronic stamps for traceability...
In fact, many products made from lotus after being recognized with a certified label have been standardized, produced according to standards, and improved product quality to meet standards on quality, design, food safety and environmental regulations. Products after recognition are labeled and labeled on product packaging, raising the level and creating trust for consumers, qualifying them to enter supermarkets and modern distribution systems. Previously, Mr. Tran Dinh Hinh's family in Duyen Yen village, Hiep Cuong commune mainly grew rice, but due to low-lying fields, it greatly affected productivity and economic efficiency. After learning from experience and researching lotus growing models, his family decided to switch to growing lotus for tubers, with an area of more than 2 hectares, bringing a stable source of income. Mr. Hinh shared: Lotus is suitable for low-lying fields, does not require high technical requirements but is quick to harvest with good productivity and economic efficiency. With many health benefits, lotus products are currently selling quite well, I don't have to worry about finding an outlet but traders come to my place to order and purchase. In addition to the main source of income from selling lotus roots, I also have additional income from selling seedlings, lotus flowers... In recent years, in Tien Tien commune, a number of facilities have been established to produce and process lotus products such as: dried lotus heart, lotus root starch, lotus root tea, dried lotus shoots... In 2021, the dried lotus seed product of Duc Hanh New Agricultural Cooperative in Tien Tien commune was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product certified by the province. With a closely linked process from production to processing, especially applying technology in promoting and expanding the consumption market, the cooperative's lotus products have gradually affirmed their brand value. Ms. Doan Thi Loan, Director of Duc Hanh New Agricultural Cooperative, said: To maintain the market, in the coming time, we will continue to invest in technology and machinery to improve the quality, design, and affirm the brand of the products. The Cooperative has built a website, introduced and sold products through a number of e-commerce platforms, thanks to which the quality and brand of dried lotus seeds are known to many consumers.
Hung Yen lotus is gradually becoming a "golden" raw material for many typical products, contributing to increasing the economic value and building the brand of local agricultural products. To enhance the value and brand of Hung Yen lotus, in the coming time, departments, branches, specialized units and localities in the province need to continue to support the building of the Hung Yen lotus brand associated with the protection of geographical indications; re-planning concentrated lotus growing areas; promoting and marketing products processed from lotus in many forms such as: Carrying out trade promotion for products meeting 3-star standards or higher; organizing fairs and exhibitions of OCOP products...
