The scientific research vessel “Professor Gagarinsky” with the mission of marine research, with the ability to operate in deep and offshore waters, will open a new page, allowing scientists of the two countries to explore previously unexplored areas, helping to improve understanding of ecosystems, biodiversity and marine resources, thereby proposing solutions for conservation, restoration and rational use.

The “Professor Gagarinsky” ship will help the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center modernize and enhance its capacity and effectiveness in marine scientific research, helping the Center to be fully proactive in designing research and organizing field surveys at sea. With the “Professor Gagarinsky” ship, Vietnam’s offshore marine research capacity will be significantly enhanced.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, said that the handover of the scientific research vessel “Professor Gagarinsky” is of great significance, taking place right after General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Russia, contributing to realizing the common perception of the two countries’ leaders in promoting bilateral cooperation in general, as well as the commitment to continue supporting the activities and effectively promoting the potential of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his sincere thanks to the Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Science and HigherEducation for their trust in donating Vietnam the marine research vessel "Professor Gagarinsky".

This is a new symbol of Vietnam-Russia cooperation and a common home at sea for scientists of both countries, contributing to deepening the good traditional relations and the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This gift is not only a symbol of friendship, but also a motivation for scientists of both countries to continue to contribute for the benefit of both countries.

Upon receiving the ship, the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center pledged to closely coordinate with the Navy to ensure the good technical condition of the ship. At the same time, it will coordinate with the Russian side to develop interdisciplinary scientific topics to research Vietnam's sea areas and exploit the ship effectively, worthy of trust, expectations and meeting the interests of the two countries.

Visiting the ship and crew, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien wished the crew smooth sailing on the way back to Vietnam, to maintain the ship well, use it durably, and maximize the ship's capacity to serve scientific research.

Tomorrow, May 12, the ship will leave Vladivostok port and is expected to arrive at Hai Phong port on May 25.

Previously, on May 10, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam and Mr. Andrey Removich Belousov, Minister of National Defense of Russia signed the Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership plan in the defense field for the period 2026-2030. This is an important cooperation document, guiding the defense cooperation relationship for the next 5 years.
