"We have repeatedly commented on the topic of considering self-restraint in foreign military activities near the Russian border, in the context of Norway's increased military preparedness, increased intensity of exercises and combat operations with the participation of allies, and increased NATO presence in the Arctic," Zakharova said on the ministry's official website.
According to Ms. Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry sees that the northern regions of Norway, bordering Russia, are gradually turning into armed and fortified NATO outposts.
The Russian Foreign Ministry representative noted: "The militarization of Northern Norway will not help strengthen the country's security but will be counterproductive, causing an escalation of tensions.... Russia does not threaten Norway. We believe that more than anyone else, the residents of the Eastern Finnmark border region, which was liberated from Nazi Germany by the Red Army nearly 80 years ago, realize this."
Earlier, Ms. Zakharova commented on the Czech Republic's refusal to recognize Russian passports without biometric chips, considering this an unfriendly move aimed at worsening Russia-Czech relations.
