RT reported that on October 30, US President Donald Trump said he had ordered the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing, citing strategic competition with Russia and China.

"That process will begin immediately to respond to other countries' testing programs," the White House boss announced on October 30.

Following Mr Trump's announcement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that Russia would respond "adequately" if the US violated the nuclear weapons testing moratorium.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements have been repeated many times that if someone abandons the moratorium on nuclear tests, then, of course, Russia will act accordingly," Peskov said.

Responding to Mr Trump's claim that other countries were conducting nuclear tests, Mr Peskov said: "So far, we have not received this information."

"If we are talking about Burevestnik, then it is not a nuclear test. All countries are developing their defense systems, but this is not a nuclear test," the Russian official stressed.

According to RT , Burevestnik is Russia's new modern nuclear-capable cruise missile, equipped with a small nuclear reactor, allowing it to have a virtually unlimited range. The Russian military successfully tested this missile last week.

Meanwhile, Washington tested a non-nuclear Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile in February and launched four Trident II missiles from a submarine in September.
