Founded in 1992 as an English-language newspaper primarily catering to Westerners who emigrated to Russia, as the country opened up to the outside world following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Among the paper's former employees are several prominent journalists, including Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter currently on trial in Russia on espionage charges.
The Moscow Times moved to the Netherlands due to Russia's comprehensive censorship law shortly after it launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
Russian authorities had previously designated the channel as a "foreign agent" and blocked its website in Russia.
