Prevent smuggled chicken breeds

Recently, through the gateway of Quang Ninh province, illegal chicken breeds have been imported in large quantities into the domestic market by "brokers" because they are cheaper, but they pose a high risk of disease outbreaks, threatening the domestic livestock industry.

Faced with this situation, on September 13, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien signed an official dispatch to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province requesting the direction of functional forces to organize the prevention of smuggled chickens.

The document stated that, according to media reports, the illegal transportation and trade of poultry and poultry products across the border into Vietnam has continued to be complicated in Quang Ninh province. At the same time, specialized agencies in Quang Ninh province have also arrested many cases of transporting poultry of unknown origin across the border.

In order to implement Decision No. 172/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the "National Plan for the Prevention and Control of Avian Influenza, 2019 - 2025 period", the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to direct the functional forces to establish a special project to combat subjects transporting and trading poultry and poultry products illegally imported across the border; arrest and strictly handle cases of illegal import of poultry and poultry products; organize propaganda for people in border areas about the dangers of avian influenza and the harms of trading and transporting poultry of unknown origin.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested the leaders of Quang Ninh province to direct the functional forces to strengthen inspection and control, especially at border gates, trails, openings in border areas, seaports, rivers... to strictly handle cases of illegal trading, slaughtering, and transportation of poultry and poultry products into Vietnam. In case of catching illegal shipments of animals and animal products, they must be destroyed immediately (before destruction, samples must be taken and sent to veterinary agencies for disease testing).
