Doctor shows how to preserve coconut water, notes when using

Coconut water is popular for its refreshing properties, but if stored and used carelessly, it can become a source of dangerous poisoning.

Accordingly, to avoid the risk of poisoning, Dr. Nguyen Phoi Hien, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 3, pointed out some signs that coconut water or coconut has gone bad:

  • Coconut water turns yellow, cloudy or has unusual scum.
  • Has a strange smell like sour, rancid, fermented or musty.
  • Sour, bitter, acrid taste instead of the characteristic sweet taste.
  • Coconut rice appears soft, slimy or dark in color.
  • Black spots or mold appear on the coconut shell (especially peeled coconuts).

However, according to Dr. Phoi Hien, the most important thing is that users need to pay special attention to the origin and storage conditions of the product before using it.

Depending on the processing condition, coconuts need to be preserved in different ways:

For coconuts in shell: Store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. Can be used within 7-15 days depending on environmental conditions.

For peeled or capped coconuts : Must be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2-5 degrees Celsius. Should be used within 24-48 hours after peeling. If the coconut water has been poured out of the fruit, it should be stored in a clean bottle with a tight lid and should be drunk within the day. Coconut water should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours because the risk of bacterial contamination is very high. Being overweight increases the risk of two common cancers

A new study has warned of a dangerous link between being overweight and an increased risk of two common cancers in women.

A new study conducted by Serbian scientists and published in the journal Biomolecules and Biomedicine , analyzed data from more than 245,000 female patients and found that factors related to obesity and metabolic syndrome can significantly increase the likelihood of developing endometrial cancer and breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

According to the study, for every 5 kg of weight gain, the risk of developing cancer anywhere in the body increases by an average of 11%. Notably, the study found that more than 50% of newly diagnosed patients with endometrial cancer were obese. These patients also faced a significantly higher risk of death than those of normal weight.

Research shows a strong link between high body mass index (BMI) and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women. Obese women have up to an 82% higher risk of breast cancer than those of normal weight.

The researchers explain that the mechanism behind this link may be due to “lipotoxicity” in fat tissue. Excessive fat accumulation can damage cell membranes and exacerbate inflammation. In the long term, this can lead to oxidative DNA damage and ultimately the development of cancer cells. The next content of this article will be on the health page on April 10 .

4 signs when walking warn of high cholesterol

Increased levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood lead to plaque buildup and formation in the arteries, causing atherosclerosis. This condition manifests itself through a number of symptoms, especially during exercise.

Plaque buildup in the artery walls causes blood vessels to narrow and harden. During physical activity, such as walking, abnormalities in the blood vessels can lead to problems with movement.

When blood cholesterol levels are high, patients will experience the following symptoms when walking or exercising :

Shortness of breath. Feeling short of breath when walking can be a sign of high levels of LDL “bad” cholesterol. High LDL causes plaque to form in the coronary arteries, reducing blood flow to the heart muscle. This condition is called coronary artery disease.

When the heart doesn’t get enough oxygen, even light activity like walking can cause shortness of breath. This is a sign that the heart is working too hard to pump blood throughout the body. If left untreated, coronary artery disease can lead to a heart attack.

Cold hands and feet. One of the symptoms of peripheral artery disease (PAD) is cold hands or feet when walking or exercising. The disease occurs when fatty deposits build up in the peripheral arteries, especially those that carry blood to the limbs, causing inadequate blood flow.

When you walk, your muscles need more blood. However, if there is not enough blood, your hands and feet will be cold, numb, or your skin will be pale. Peripheral artery disease is often associated with high blood cholesterol levels. If left untreated, people with the disease will face a high risk of stroke and heart attack.
