'Why are tears flowing when I'm happy?'
…Tears flowed naturally and could not be stopped, because where else, where else in the world, did people have to endure hardships and sacrifices through centuries of ups and downs to be reunited in the family of "children of Lac and grandchildren of Hong" born from the same womb?
Legend?! It sounds like a legend but it is true. The truth and also the truth of the times: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom!". No power can stop the unifying will of a peace- loving nation, but is ready to "sacrifice everything but never lose the country, never become slaves".
Unfortunately, there are still some calculating minds who think they are smart but are "slow to understand" or "deliberately slow to understand" to finally realize a historical truth: Over thousands of years, the Vietnamese people have never surrendered to invaders because that heroic nation has always loved peace but is also willing to sacrifice for freedom and happiness.
Better late than never! Late but realizing the truth is better than some people somewhere who are still stubborn, holding in their minds the illusion of "this side, that side", "this flag, that flag". Maybe, some warmongers somewhere still have that backward ideology in their minds. But as a Vietnamese, no matter where you are, to this day still be attached to the ideology that once divided the nation, that caused so much suffering for the Vietnamese people, no matter which side you are on, is unacceptable.
The truth is that Vietnam today, after nearly half a century of national unification, people from all three regions of the North, Central and South live in peace, together building a richer and stronger country, with happier people. Only those who deliberately close their eyes cannot see what the whole world sees: a Vietnam striving and achieving spectacular achievements in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, a Vietnam with miraculous development, a peaceful and livable Vietnam.
… Suddenly our hearts ache again, and someone may shed tears: If only there was no division, if only a general election had been held, peace had been established throughout Vietnam as stipulated in the Geneva Agreement… If only Vietnam and the United States had established diplomatic relations right after the Allies defeated fascism, peace had conquered war, as Uncle Ho wished, then Vietnam would have developed more than it is today, and would have contributed much more to the international community! If only, if only…

Every year, the Vietnamese people celebrate the national reunification day as a message first of all for Vietnamese people, whether at home or abroad, to understand the value of national reunification. |
But history has no "if only" or "if", so the best choice for a tolerant person is to "close the past and look to the future". That choice has made Vietnam a country respected by the international community. Many countries have proactively proposed upgrading diplomatic relations with Vietnam, including the United States, a former enemy now a comprehensive strategic partner. The export turnover between the two countries reached over 120 billion USD. Greater than trade and billion-dollar projects, it is that the people of the two countries are closer together.
The United States, from not understanding Vietnamese culture, now has a profound understanding of Vietnamese culture and knows how to use the Kieu poem to describe positive diplomatic steps between the two countries in a world with many unpredictable developments.
Looking back at the past, we understand that the comprehensive strategic relationship between Vietnam and the United States can only be explained by the Kieu verse: "Heaven still allows us to have this day/The mist at the entrance clears, the clouds part in the sky". Even the head of state of the United States understands this, so why don't we understand ourselves?! And because we understand ourselves, we also understand others, respect others, share their pain and difficulties to try to improve ourselves, to try to contribute to maintaining peace and common prosperity.
Because of that sincerity, wherever Vietnam goes and whatever it does, it is warmly welcomed and supported by the international community.
National reconciliation is a consistent policy and the ultimate goal.

Economically, the GDP has now exceeded 400 billion USD from tens of billions of USD. Or if we mention the increasingly complete 500KW North-South power line, it is not only about electricity, economic development but also about national unity. The North-South expressway is gradually being completed, the Ho Chi Minh trail of the past is now a major road, a traffic artery across the majestic Truong Son range. So the harmony, unity, and reunion of the great family of Vietnamese ethnic groups is the unprecedented great foundation of the country; Vietnam's position in the international arena is the invaluable asset of our nation.
It is hard to understand if there is anyone in the world today who is not friendly to Vietnam?! Vietnam wants to be a friend, a trusted partner with all countries in the international community, and has become a very responsible member of that community. Vietnam does not want and absolutely cannot stand with one country to fight against another, cannot have new friends and forget old friends. Vietnam only wants a peaceful world, because more than anyone else, Vietnam understands the price of peace, the price of the happy day of national reunification.
Every year, the Vietnamese people celebrate the National Reunification Day as a message to the Vietnamese people, whether at home or abroad, to understand the value of national reunification; affirming that only with reunification can Vietnam become rich and strong, only with reunification can the people have a life of Independence - Freedom - Happiness!
National reconciliation is our consistent policy and our ultimate goal. As a Vietnamese, anyone who goes against that goal is betraying the nation, betraying his own family, betraying the future of his children! Although there are still many limitations that need to be overcome and many desires that have not been met, life and direction are clear, the will for a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and prosperous Vietnam will never change.
To achieve that, national unity and national solidarity are of decisive importance. Building a clean and strong Party is the premise of all premises.
Only a clean and strong country can develop to become a high-income country by 2030 and a high-income developed country by 2045.
The day of national reunification will have even greater significance when the country is strong, all the descendants of Hong and Lac, wherever they are, have a prosperous and happy life, and all turn towards our beloved Vietnam.
