Immediately after the spring rice harvest, farmers in many places such as Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc urgently went to the fields to prepare the land and sow the crops. The Irrigation Department promptly operated the canal system and pumping stations to provide enough irrigation water on time.

In Hung Thong commune (Hung Nguyen), farmers are entering the stage of land preparation and embankment reinforcement to retain water in preparation for summer-autumn rice cultivation. Pumping station No. 8 of Hung Nguyen Irrigation Enterprise is currently operating to provide irrigation water for more than 686 hectares of rice in Hung Thong commune (Hung Nguyen) and Nam Cat commune (Nam Dan).

According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Tan - Head of Pumping Station No. 8, the station currently has 8 workers taking turns operating the pump and leading water on the canals. The pumping process is scientifically organized according to the principle of "irrigating remote areas first, watering low areas later" to save water and electricity, avoiding losses due to canal overflow. At the same time, blockages on the canals due to waste and water hyacinth are also promptly handled to ensure the flow is always smooth, meeting irrigation needs during the peak of the hot season.

Mr. Le Van Hung - Director of Hung Nguyen Irrigation Enterprise said that this summer-autumn crop, the unit is responsible for irrigating over 4,515 hectares of rice. To proactively manage water resources, before the summer-autumn crop, the unit has carried out dredging, clearing canals, and maintaining pumping station machinery.

At this time, the enterprise is operating 3 out of 14 pumping stations, including: Hung Chau pumping station (Hung Nhan commune) and Rum river pumping station - where water is taken from Lam river branch to create source for Le Xuan Dao canal, serving irrigation for Hung Nghia, Chau Nhan and Phuc Loi communes.

Water pumping is organized in rotation, distributed reasonably, ensuring the saving and effective use of water resources. Thanks to that, up to now, most of the cultivated areas in the area have been provided with enough water, meeting the production requirements in the right time frame.

In Nghi Phuong Commune (Nghi Loc), farmers are entering the stage of preparing the land for the summer-autumn rice crop. Ha Thanh Irrigation Station, under Nghi Loc Irrigation Enterprise, has deployed water pumping to irrigate more than 340 hectares of rice in Nghi Phuong and Nghi Dong communes.

Mr. Nguyen Van Diep - Station Manager said that all 9 workers of the station are taking turns pumping water 24/24 hours to ensure enough water for irrigation on schedule. In addition, to prevent and combat saline intrusion, workers are assigned to work in rotation at Thuong Xa sluice (Nghi Quang commune) and Nghi Khanh sluice, ensuring timely regulation of water opening and closing, protecting the safety of rice fields from the risk of salinity in harsh weather conditions.

Mr. Ta Duy Hien - General Director of Nam Nghe An Irrigation Company Limited said that the unit is currently managing 42 pumping stations, responsible for irrigating about 17,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, of which 85% of the area uses electric pumps. Right from the beginning of the crop, the company has implemented many synchronous solutions to provide timely and adequate irrigation water for agricultural production.

The Mu Ba culvert (Nam Dan) operated by the company is flexibly operated to maximize the amount of water entering the system. The drainage culverts at the end of the system are closed to prevent salinity and retain fresh water. At the pumping stations taking water from Lam River, Cam River, Gai Canal, Hoang Can Canal, Vinh River, etc., the work of checking the salinity concentration on the canals and at the suction tank is carried out regularly before and during operation.

In addition, the company also controls the quality of water sources at all pumping stages, and promptly notifies localities so that people can use water economically and effectively. Currently, the unit has prepared more than 20 field pumps, ready to respond to droughts.

According to the Nghe An Irrigation Department, the Department has implemented many proactive solutions to cope with the drought situation. These include reviewing water sources, developing water-saving irrigation plans for each region and each project; coordinating with hydropower plants such as Ban Ve, Khe Bo, Chi Khe to regulate water discharge to serve production and people's lives in downstream areas.

Specific solutions implemented include: strict management, preventing water loss; applying advanced and economical irrigation technology; dredging canals, sluice gates, and suction tanks; utilizing all water sources from ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams in the fields; installing and maintaining field pumping stations ready for operation when necessary.

For irrigation areas dependent on reservoirs, farmers are advised to only plant within the area where water is guaranteed throughout the season. In case of water shortage, oil pumps will be used to draw water from the reservoir bed or supplement water from external sources at the end of the canal.

At the same time, units focused on repairing and maintaining drainage systems such as culverts, pumping stations, flood discharge gates; at the same time, organizing dredging and clearing the flow on drainage routes such as Nha Le River, Bung River, Cam River, Hoang Can Canal, Lam Tra Canal and key construction areas such as Nghi Quang sluice gate, Ben Thuy sluice gate, Dien Thanh sluice gate, Hung Chau pumping station... to ensure safe operation of the system and flood drainage for the summer-autumn rice crop.
