Transportation is difficult.

Strong winds and heavy rains caused a series of trees and electric poles to fall on the roads, causing serious traffic jams. In mountainous areas, heavy rains led to serious landslides. Many major roads were cut off by landslides.

On National Highway 46, through Vinh Loc and Vinh Phu wards (Vinh city), hundreds of trees were broken and many large trees blocked the road. According to Mr. Vo Trong Hong - Head of Kim Lien Road Management Department, the unit in charge of National Highways 46 and 46B, preliminary statistics show that more than 200 large trees fell onto the road.

“From early morning on September 29, we mobilized 20 officers and employees along with specialized machinery to carry out the cutting and clearing. By about 9 am, the road was basically clear. However, there are still many points that need to be handled more carefully to ensure absolute safety for the people,” Mr. Hong shared.

Not only trees, many electric poles and traffic signs were also damaged. Some road sections suffered minor landslides and the road surface was peeling due to prolonged flooding. Traffic management units in coordination with the electricity industry and local authorities are continuing to inspect and handle the situation to ensure smooth and safe traffic.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, a truck driver on the Vinh - Nam Dan route, said: "Last night, I had to stop my car in the middle of the road because a tree fell across it. This morning, seeing the authorities working very urgently, I dared to continue my journey. I hope everything will be fixed soon so that people can travel conveniently."

Heavy rains in the mountainous areas of Western Nghe An also caused water levels in rivers and streams to rise, causing localized flooding. Many localities were isolated, greatly affecting people's lives. National Highway 7A, which had just been seriously damaged in storms No. 3 and No. 5, has not been repaired and is now damaged again. Some sections of the road were flooded due to the rising water level of the Lam River, making it impossible for vehicles to pass, such as the section through Tam Quang commune. Particularly, the section through Tuong Duong commune was also seriously blocked due to landslides. Floodwaters swept away a house in Ang village, and landslides occurred in many other places, causing localized congestion.

In Yen Hoa commune, the rapidly rising river water washed away Trung Thang bridge, isolating many villages. Mr. Lo Thanh Binh - Vice Chairman of Yen Hoa commune People's Committee, Nghe An province said that from the morning of September 29, the flood water rose rapidly, and at about 11 o'clock the same day, Trung Thang bridge across Huoi Nguyen stream was swept away by flood water. After the bridge collapsed, 3 villages including Vang Lim, Tat and Xop Coc with about 300 households were completely isolated.

According to initial statistics of Nghe An Department of Construction, there are 21 traffic jams on national and provincial highways managed by the department. Of these, National Highway 48, National Highway 48E and National Highway 48D have 10 traffic jams. On National Highway 1A and the North-South Expressway section passing through Nghe An, there are also some traffic jams due to fallen trees, signs and structures blocking the road. Currently, Nghe An Department of Construction and Road Management Area II have been directing the route management units to mobilize maximum means, machinery and human resources, and coordinate with local authorities and other functional forces to clear the road as soon as possible.
