Vietnam University of Fine Arts 100 years of contributing to the creation of modern Vietnamese fine arts

On November 15, in Hanoi, the Vietnam University of Fine Arts held a ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indochina School of Fine Arts - Vietnam University of Fine Arts (1925-2025) - an important historical milestone, marking a journey of fine arts training, a century of contributions to the fine arts, culture and fine arts education in Vietnam that is advanced and imbued with identity. At the ceremony, the school was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Dang Thi Phong Lan, Principal of Vietnam University of Fine Arts, reviewed the school's proud milestones over the past 100 years.

According to Dr. Dang Thi Phong Lan, from the Indochina Fine Arts School to the present Vietnam University of Fine Arts, the school has carried out its historical mission and training tradition with an educational philosophy that always aims at the values ​​of identity, creativity and humanity. The school has become a place to nurture talent and contribute to shaping the appearance of modern Vietnamese fine arts.

With its achievements in training, Vietnam University of Fine Arts was honored to be visited by President Ho Chi Minh in 1955 and 1960. The school has been awarded many noble prizes by the State: 2 times receiving the First Class Labor Medal in 1990 and 2010, the First Class Independence Medal in 2005 and the Ho Chi Minh Medal in 2015.

There are 18 artists trained at the school or are teaching staff of the school who were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for literature and art. 7 lecturers were honored to receive the noble title of People's Teacher, 16 lecturers were awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher. 2 lecturers were awarded the title of Professor. 22 lecturers were awarded the title of Associate Professor...

Dr. Dang Thi Phong Lan affirmed that, after 100 years of establishment and development, the Vietnam University of Fine Arts has demonstrated its influence and importance in the modern Vietnamese fine arts life. The stature and mission of the school have affirmed its position as a leading fine arts training and education center in Vietnam, with influence in the region and attention in the international fine arts community. The school's lecturers are pedagogues dedicated to the career of art training, and at the same time are talented artists contributing to the development of modern Vietnamese fine arts with many works preserved in major museums in the country and the world.

Entering a new era, the school will promote its glorious tradition, continue to be a leading center for training, research and artistic creation, and strongly integrate with the world and the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong acknowledged and expressed his deep gratitude for the school's persistent efforts and dedication throughout its glorious 100-year journey, and affirmed that the school has contributed to opening up the flow of modern Vietnamese fine arts, crystallizing the quintessence of Asian and European culture and laying the foundation for the fields of painting, sculpture, design, lacquer, applied arts... to develop professionally.

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, throughout the country's historical periods, generations of teachers and students of the school have always accompanied the nation's destiny, training great names who have made Vietnamese fine arts famous such as To Ngoc Van, Nguyen Gia Tri, Tran Van Can, Bui Xuan Phai... and many generations of contemporary artists who continue to make a deep mark in the artistic life.

Regarding the next stage, according to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requires and expects the Vietnam University of Fine Arts to focus on implementing three major strategic orientations: Adhering to the philosophy of "Identity - Creativity - Humanity"; promoting digital transformation in training and artistic creation; developing the school to become a prestigious art training center in the region by 2030.

“With a 100-year heritage, with the professional qualities and dedication of generations of teachers and students, the Vietnam University of Fine Arts will continue to shine, worthy of being the cradle of modern Vietnamese fine arts; a prestigious training address, connecting tradition and modernity, integration and creativity”, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong expressed his confidence.

At the ceremony, Vietnam University of Fine Arts was honored to receive the Certificate of Merit from the Government and the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for its specialized faculties, recognizing outstanding achievements in art training and contributions to the country's fine arts.
