Recently, the news that artist Tan Beo discovered stage 5 kidney failure (the final stage), after a period of treatment for a stroke, made the public and audience feel sorry.
According to information from the family, the patient received dialysis at a medical facility and had bypass surgery to prepare for long-term regular dialysis.

Talking to the doctor, Tan Beo admitted that the above condition was the result of his habit of eating salty foods, pickled foods, rotten eggs, fish sauce, and drinking beer late at night.
After 3 months of intensive treatment for chronic kidney disease at a medical facility in Ho Chi Minh City, artist Tan Beo's glomerular filtration rate has improved, freeing him from regular dialysis, but he must maintain regular check-ups, physical therapy and close monitoring.
Over 10 million Vietnamese people have chronic kidney disease
According to statistics from the Ministry of Health , Vietnam currently has over 10 million people with chronic kidney disease. Of these, about 26,000 patients have entered the final stage, requiring regular dialysis or kidney transplants to sustain life.
Dr. Huynh Ngoc Phuong Thao, Head of the Department of Nephrology - Artificial Kidney, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the causes of chronic kidney failure are glomerulonephritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, obstructive kidney disease, genetics...
In particular, drug poisoning, the habit of arbitrarily using drugs without a doctor's guidance, and prolonged use of painkillers are also causes of kidney failure, because most drugs are excreted through the kidneys.
In the early stages of the disease, clinical signs are often vague and unclear, only detected through blood, urine and ultrasound tests.
In the late stages, patients often have symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, sleep disorders, decreased urine output, muscle pain, cramps, leg swelling, ankle swelling, itching, ascites, pleural effusion, etc.

Warning of the disease getting younger
More worryingly, the rate of young people getting sick is increasing rapidly and most of them only discover the disease when it has become severe, due to a lack of regular health check-ups and being subjective to early warning signs.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Bach, Head of the Department of Nephrology, Thong Nhat Hospital, said that in addition to diabetes and high blood pressure commonly found in the elderly, glomerulonephritis (IgA nephropathy, commonly found in people aged 17-40) also leads to early kidney failure complications.
Statistics show that in 1,000 kidney biopsies at Thong Nhat Hospital, about 300 young people were recorded to have glomerulonephritis.
A common complication in patients with kidney failure is damage to blood vessels, caused by the dialysis process. Many patients suffer from severe blockage and narrowing of the central veins, causing swelling of the face, chest and many other areas of the body.
“We are seeing more and more severe damage to blood vessels. Patients are undergoing dialysis too late, requiring multiple catheters, leading to complications such as narrowing and blockage of blood vessels,” Associate Professor Nguyen Bach said.
Chronic kidney failure seriously affects the health and spirit of the patient and leaves dangerous complications. The patient retains water, leading to edema, high blood pressure or pulmonary edema. A sudden increase in potassium levels in the blood can reduce heart function and can be life-threatening.
In addition, the disease also leads to serious complications in the digestive tract, nervous system, reproductive system, cardiovascular system...

Kidney failure is divided into 5 stages. In stages 1-4, if detected early and treated properly, the patient can prolong the time to preserve kidney function for 5-10 years. When the disease progresses to the final stage, the patient must have a kidney transplant or regular dialysis.
With the advancement of medicine, there are more and more methods that not only help patients maintain their lives but also improve their quality of life closer to that of normal people. Current renal replacement therapies include hemodialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation.
To effectively prevent chronic kidney disease, people need to raise awareness of health protection and have regular health check-ups. If the disease is detected, patients need to follow the instructions of a specialist and should not self-medicate.
At the same time, it is necessary to control daily diet, limit salty food, maintain physical exercise , and control high blood pressure and diabetes well.
