Young artist 'son of a famous family' finds his own path

Recently, many young artists from the next generation of families with artistic traditions have continuously introduced new products, gradually asserting their own unique personalities.

On July 30, Cam - the "daughter" of musician Duy Manh - introduced her first EP titled Love or not love, including 7 songs and the MV of the opening single Tuc tac dice . Recently, at the 3rd stop of the Du ca series called Mai mai ben em on the evening of August 9 in Phu Tho , famous singer Jimmii Nguyen also invited his daughter Alena to the stage for a special instrumental performance of modern meditation music.

Previously, singer My Anh attracted attention when releasing the EP Phases of the Moon after the album Em•Me received positive reviews. She sang many songs with her mother, singer My Linh, when she was young, but surprisingly, the "grown-up" My Anh left her mark with different creations when choosing to stick with the R&B and soul genres. In this EP, all 6 songs were composed and performed by My Anh in English, paving the way for her journey to the international stage. Recently, the female singer has appeared at many music festivals in the US, Korea, the Philippines, Australia... showing her constant efforts to assert herself.

antransax, daughter of musician - saxophone artist Tran Manh Tuan, has recently made a strong transformation with the English EP Again , consisting of 6 R&B songs. On her personal page, "senior" singer Hong Nhung gave compliments to this product and humorously shared that the young artist "is better than his parents". Although it is just the beginning of his musical career, antransax has made his own mark. In the America's Next Top Hitmaker competition, which searches for talented producers around the world , antransax was ranked 9th, showing great potential, promising more interesting and unique developments.

Not only producing music for themselves, many young artists also make music for the previous generation. For example, Nan - the daughter of musician Hong Kien - recently also took on music production for Tung Duong in the album Multiverse . Released in 2024, Nan's XT-TX is a very notable and unusual album in the Vietnamese music scene, with alternative colors and a mix of weirdness, eccentricity and strong personality. Lope Pham, nephew of singer Hong Nhung, also marked a new step for the diva through the product Tu moi, which he produced himself. Previously, Lope Pham also attracted attention when participating in the production of rapper MCK's album 99% and created many hits.

" VERY PRESSURE"

Coming from a family with an artistic tradition is not always the foundation for young artists to develop their abilities. There have been cases where they were prevented by their own families, because more than anyone else, the older generation is the one who understands and absorbs this "environment" the best. Nan shared: "I have defied the odds and devoted myself to art despite my family's objections and my difficult personal life. Over the past 6 years, Nan has found a certain position and is determined enough for my parents to believe in and support my path. Coming from a family with an artistic tradition is very stressful."

But the most important thing in the independent development of an artist, according to Nan, is to find the good in everything. The female singer told Thanh Nien reporter: "Knowing what you have and what you don't have is what determines how far you can go."

As shared above, "independent thinking" is the "key" for young artists to find their own voice and style. They know how to turn their lucky advantages into motivation to develop without relying or depending on it. My Anh said that although her father - musician Anh Quan and sister Anna Truong still support her in making music, her ideas and creativity are completely independent and always respected by everyone.

Meanwhile, Cam shared that her father inspired her in music and has always accompanied her until today, but she refused the suggestion to pursue a mature and sexy image from her father Duy Manh, because she has not discovered that aspect of herself and is still in the process of finding her own identity and artistry.

In addition, perhaps because they have understood and been present in this environment for quite a long time, the "traditional" Gen Z artists are also very steadfast in their chosen path. Soul by My Anh, alternative by Nan, meditation music by Alena or R&B by antransax are not very "popular" music genres today, but over time they have proven the value of the path they have chosen. This new generation also shows their versatility when gradually becoming all-round artists: My Anh, Nan or antransax are taking on many roles, from composing, performing, producing to coming up with ideas for making videos, MVs... They are also constantly finding ways to reach out to the world, contributing to creating a new look for the Vietnamese music scene.
