The 8th Ho Chi Minh City Open Dance Festival - 2024 has just officially closed with the premiere and award ceremony taking place on the evening of October 21, at the Ho Chi Minh City Army Theater.

Experts highly appreciated the work "Phan Ngoc", the A prize winner of the 8th Ho Chi Minh City Open Dance Festival - 2024, expressing the hearts of the dancers in protecting the nation's precious heritage.

This demonstrates a new face of Ho Chi Minh City dance art when it goes into cultural depth, exploiting the concerns about identity, human life and the life pressures of artisans and artists in the face of many changes.

The 8th Ho Chi Minh City Open Dance Festival - 2024 organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Dance Artists Association (taking place from October 18 to 21) has created a wide spread, continuing the success of the 7 previous festivals held in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2020 and 2022.

Assessing the quality of the festival, Dr. - People's Artist Ha The Dung - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Dance Artists Association, Chairman of the festival's Jury - said that the number of participating works this time did not increase compared to previous festivals, but the quality of many works gave the festival a new look.

The creative team is gathered, the participating actors are professional, the entries all have practical themes, and quite clear regional colors.

In addition, the layout, stage design, suitable costumes, tight investment in content ideas, the structure of the song closely following the theme along with the skillful choice of music brought many emotions to the audience.

In addition to traditional and ethnic folk dance, contemporary dance is still widely used by authors.

However, there are still some signs of lack of professional skills in stage techniques; connecting content, coordinating dance according to ideas. Many works are still performed in a conventional way, not daring to eliminate thoughts, safety...

According to the organizers, with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City - 50 years of proud heroic epic", this festival is also an opportunity for artists of the City Dance Artists Association to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and carry out the construction of " Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space" as set out in the Resolution of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress (2020-2025).

The festival also aims to create an environment to reveal and develop the talents of actors and choreographers; an opportunity to exchange, learn, improve skills, improve the quality of artistic services, and meet the increasing enjoyment needs of the public.

As a result of the festival, the organizing committee awarded 42 prizes, including 13 prizes for works and 29 prizes for actors. The total prize value is more than 600 million VND.
