"Medicine has no crown, only humanity and kindness"

On the afternoon of May 12, Can Tho Central General Hospital held a ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary (2005-2025).

At the celebration, Dr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Director of Can Tho Central General Hospital, shared that 20 years ago, the hospital was born with many expectations and challenges.

"At that time, the hospital lacked equipment, had limited human resources, modest infrastructure, many patients, and great pressure. But what the hospital's doctors and nurses never lacked was a spirit of dedication, a desire to serve, and to share," said Dr. Vu.

According to the head of Can Tho Central General Hospital, if you ask him what makes a hospital sustainable over the years, it is not just the spacious building or advanced technology, but the people and the trust of the people.

At the ceremony, Dr. Vu thanked the patients - those who entrusted their lives, hopes and even tears to him.

"Some people leave, some come back with smiles, some babies born in the hospital are now medical students. Each patient is a living diary of trust and affection," said Dr. Vu.

Doctor Nguyen Minh Vu emotionally shared: "No one in the medical profession has never shed tears. We cry because we cannot save a life. We shed tears when we see a patient walk out of the recovery room with a smile back.

There were New Year's Eves when the emergency bell rang instead of firecrackers, and there were doctors who did not get to see their children born because they were performing emergency surgery. Being a doctor is not just about treating illnesses. Being a doctor is about being by people's side in their weakest and most painful moments, and giving them hope, comfort, and strength to continue living."

Doctor Vu added that being a doctor is a long journey, with no stopping point, no crown, only humanity and kindness.

According to a report from Can Tho Central General Hospital, the hospital currently receives 2,000-2,500 outpatients every day. The number of inpatients ranges from 1,500 to 1,700.

Over the past 20 years, along with professional work, developing the medical economy and ensuring the lives of employees and workers have also been the consistent bright spots of the Hospital.

In 2024, revenue will reach about 1,870 billion VND, 4 times higher than the initial period. Thanks to that, the hospital will not only create a positive working environment but also significantly improve the income and life of staff and doctors.

The hospital is implementing a project to expand its area by an additional 3.5 hectares in the period 2025-2030. In particular, the hospital focuses on developing organ transplantation techniques, with the goal of performing the first liver transplant in 2026.
