According to a statement from the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs , President Halimah Yacob will make her first official state visit to Malaysia from March 20-22.
The visit was made at the invitation of Malaysian King Al-Sultan Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and is also in response to the King's state visit to Singapore last October.
Accompanying President Halimah Yacob on the trip was her husband Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee along with several ministers, parliamentarians and officials from the Office of the President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
According to the agenda, Ms. Halimah Yacob will have meetings with King Al-Sultan Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The President will perform a tree planting ceremony at the Royal Palace and also witness the naming ceremony of a new orchid species - Vanda Halimah Yacob Mohamed.
Singapore often names new orchid varieties after foreign leaders who visit the island nation, as part of its "orchid diplomacy" policy to foster friendship.
According to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "this is the first time that a tree planting and orchid naming ceremony have been combined during a state visit to Malaysia."
During the visit, in her capacity as Chancellor Emeritus of the National University of Singapore, Ms Halimah Yacob will meet the Sultan of Perak, Mr Nazrin Shah - Chancellor of the University of Malaya.
She will also meet with Singaporean and Malaysian business leaders and attend a reception for expatriate Singaporeans in Malaysia.
