Vietnamese-American basketball star in VBA is not afraid of unemployment after retirement

Dinh Thanh Tam (Tam Dinh) is one of the first Vietnamese players of VBA. After nearly 8 years (since VBA 2016) returning to Vietnam from the US to pursue a career in "shorts and jerseys", the 1.92 m tall shooter has achieved most of the coveted individual and collective titles in VBA. He is also a key member of the Vietnam basketball team in recent years.

The 1990-born shooter, who is currently leading the VBA 2023 with the Hanoi Buffaloes Club, has just made some interesting revelations about the future. “If I don’t play professional basketball anymore, like many other basketball-loving shooters, I will continue to pursue this passion by teaching children or becoming a professional coach. If I can’t do those things, I might become a streamer, a model or an actor. I also like cars, I can fix cars and be a mechanic,” said Dinh Thanh Tam.

The Vietnamese basketball star also enthusiastically recounted the unforgettable milestones in his career. “The most memorable memories were the first times I made history with the Vietnamese basketball team when I won 2 bronze medals at the 30th SEA Games, then 1 silver medal at the 31st SEA Games. The next memorable thing was the time I played basketball with my younger brother - Dinh Thanh Sang. When we were at Cantho Catfish, we played under the same jersey and on the same team. He passed the ball and I dunked. It was truly a beautiful memory,” Dinh Thanh Tam confided.

After many ups and downs, the player who scored the most points in VBA history no longer cares about personal achievements. “I don’t care about records. Since I first returned to Vietnam, everything has developed very quickly. There are more young people playing basketball here and many basketball courts have been opened. Those are very meaningful things to me,” said the Vietnamese-American player.

At VBA 2023, although no longer at the peak of his form, with his extensive experience, Dinh Thanh Tam still knows how to "speak up" at key moments. After helping the Hanoi Buffaloes Club take the top spot from Saigon Heat, Dinh Thanh Tam is expected to continue to help the capital team "fly high" in the important stage ahead.
