Late on May 3, Leicester City defeated Southampton 2-0 in round 35 of the 2024-2025 Premier League. Vardy and Ayew scored for the "foxes". However, this was a formality match as both teams were already certain of relegation.

However, Leicester star Vardy also knew how to leave his mark when he blew the whistle for referee David Webb when he was injured.

In the 22nd minute, referee Webb collided with Leicester striker Jordan Ayew, causing him to fall to the ground and appear to be in pain. Vardy was the one who rushed forward, grabbed the referee's whistle and blew to stop the match.

Because the game is only stopped when the whistle is blown and Mr Webb was unable to do so, Vardy had to step in. Mr Webb was eventually able to walk off the pitch himself before being replaced by Phil Sharp as the referee, after the game had been stopped for nearly 12 minutes.

"I feel sorry for the referee. He hit a wall called Jordan Ayew. It's not easy. And Jamie Vardy blew the whistle to stop the game, we helped him like that," Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy said after the match.

Vardy has been renowned for his special moments during his time at Leicester City, so it's no surprise that he's at the centre of this situation with the chance to blow the whistle.

From leading the Foxes to promotion to the Premier League, breaking the record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches, to winning the historic Premier League title in the 2015-2016 season, Vardy has achieved extraordinary achievements with the club.

Although Leicester are back in the Championship, Vardy will play his final home game at the King Power Stadium on May 18. Their opponents in that match are also relegated Ipswich Town.
