Yuntai Waterfall is located in Yuntai Mountain Park, a major tourist attraction in Henan Province, northern China. The park has been rated AAAAA by the country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the highest rating for a tourist attraction, according to CNN.
But the water source, described on the park's website as "like the Milky Way flying down", has been found to be anything but natural. A video posted on Chinese social media this week shows that the pipe supplying the 314m-high waterfall is not entirely natural, as visitors were led to believe.

Responding to this, the Yuntai Mountain Park Management Board explained that changes in the dry season required additional force to be added to the waterfall. "The waterfall cannot be guaranteed to present the public with its best appearance due to seasonal changes," adding that the waterfall had undergone "minor improvements during the dry season."
The park management also expressed gratitude for the concern, promising that the falls will welcome visitors this summer in "the most perfect and natural form".
While the video shocked many in China, others on social media defended the park's approach. "The origin of the waterfall is not something people come to see, I don't think it should be considered deceiving the public," one social media user responded.

Yuntai is not the first waterfall in China to need extra help. The country's monsoon climate makes it harder to keep water flowing during the dry season when rainfall is low.
Huangguoshu Falls, located in southwestern China's Guizhou Province, is also affected during the dry season. In 2004, a dam was built to ensure the water continued to flow. At the time, locals welcomed the dam, saying it would "end the history of Huangguoshu Falls' water shortage"./.
