In recent times, the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model of the Quang Nam Elderly Association has gradually brought about practical results, maximizing the role of the elderly in the community.

Practical model
The Intergenerational Self-Help Club of the Elderly in My Xuyen block (Nam Phuoc town, Duy Xuyen) was established 1 year ago, attracting 50 members to actively participate in the movements.
Joining the club, many elderly people have the opportunity to exchange culture and arts, and practice physical exercises. The club mobilizes resources from benefactors and members, creating a stable fund of more than 40 million VND, promptly supporting members in difficulty.
Every month, club members contribute money to go to the market, buy necessities, and then cook meaningful meals themselves, bringing them to each house to give to lonely elderly people, unfortunate children, and people with special difficulties. The "Zero-VND Meal" model has been maintained stably for the past year; giving 120 "zero-VND" meals each month.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong - Head of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club of My Xuyen block shared: "Most of the people here live on farming, are small traders, have busy jobs but everyone joins hands to take care of lonely elderly people and vulnerable groups in the block. On the occasion of the traditional New Year, the Club's Board of Directors mobilizes resources from benefactors to give 100 - 150 gifts, contributing to sharing with the elderly and vulnerable groups."
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam - Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association, the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model focuses on 8 practical activities to support the elderly.
With activities to support income increase and poverty reduction, the Club will create conditions for members in difficult circumstances to borrow capital in the form of revolving capital contributions with low interest rates to invest in production development. With activities to care for the lives and spirits of the elderly, the Clubs, through cultural and artistic activities, visits, exchanges, help the Club have a happy and meaningful life...

Replication in the community
The project to replicate the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model (abbreviated as Project 706) for the period 2021 - 2025 in Quang Nam is implemented in the spirit of Decision No. 1336 dated August 31, 2020 of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 706 dated March 18, 2021 of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam shared that each year, the Provincial People's Committee approves from 130 to 150 million VND to implement Project 706. In addition to the funding from the Provincial People's Committee, the People's Committees of some districts have a policy of supporting each intergenerational self-help club established and launched during the year from 5 to 10 million VND.
The Provincial Association of the Elderly has socialized some of the club's activities by integrating some projects and programs into the club's activities.
Specifically: Eye care and elderly health project of FHF Organization (1.1 billion VND) and Saigon - Song Han Eye Hospital (600 million VND); Danang Musculoskeletal Care Center...
Many clubs also mobilize resources from well-off businesses and members to implement activities to support the elderly. Some clubs have an income increase fund and an operating fund of about 200 million VND; the average fund of the whole province is about 70 million VND/club...
Also according to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam, over the past 5 years, the Provincial Association of the Elderly has closely coordinated with the local health sector and Quang Nam Eye Hospital, the Ophthalmology Department of Quang Nam General Hospital in the process of implementing and carrying out eye screening for the elderly and club members.
“The implementation of Project 706 has been strongly responded to by all levels of the association in the province, contributing significantly to the implementation of the association's two core tasks: caring for and promoting the role of the elderly so that they can live happily and healthily. The replication of the intergenerational self-help club model is one of the important tasks included in the annual emulation and reward content of the provincial Association of the Elderly. Reality shows that wherever the club knows how to socialize activities in all fields, that place maintains sustainable club activities,” said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam.
