BHG - More than 40 years have passed since the country was at peace, but the haunting effects of Agent Orange (dioxin) still exist in many families. Many victims of Agent Orange have to struggle to support themselves and their families, while also caring for second and third generation victims. Not giving up in the face of difficulties, with the will and determination of a soldier, Mr. Le Dinh Cung, group 9, Minh Khai ward, Ha Giang city has risen to become a role model for economic development in the locality.

The City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin visited the economic model of Mr. Le Dinh Cung (first person on the left).

In 1965, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, 20-year-old Le Dinh Cung (born in 1945) left his hometown to join the army and fight in the Southern battlefield. In 1978, he returned to his hometown, carrying a “bloodless wound”, which was Agent Orange.

Mr. Cung shared: Returning to normal life, I encountered many difficulties and obstacles because of poor health, my house was swept away by natural disasters and floods. In recent years, thanks to the State's policy of greening barren hills, I discussed with my wife and children to receive 8 hectares of forest land to build a farm according to the VACR model (Garden - Pond - Barn - Forest). After the difficult early days, he was eager to work and learn, and he took good care of the crops and livestock, so the economy became more and more prosperous. With more than 2,000m2 of fish ponds, 1.5 hectares of fruit trees, 6 hectares of timber trees, 52 cows and 1,500m2 of pig and chicken barns... after 5 years of renovation, it has become stable with an income of 300 - 500 million VND/year.

Along with economic development, Mr. Cung also creates regular jobs for 2-5 local workers with an income of 4-5 million VND/month. With his own experience, in addition to applying techniques to develop the household economy, he also exchanges experience and knowledge, creating conditions to help households in difficult circumstances.

Overcoming the pain of war, with determination and perseverance, Mr. Cung's family now has a comfortable life. His children are all grown up, have stable jobs and incomes. Mr. Cung and his family actively participate in social activities, build local infrastructure, and set an example in implementing all policies of the Party and State. He used to be a neighborhood group leader, Party cell secretary, Minh Khai Ward Party Committee... In every position, he was at the forefront of movements.

Vice President of the City Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, commented: “Mr. Le Dinh Cung is an exemplary member, leading the local economic development movement. Our Association is actively promoting and replicating this example for other members to learn and follow.”

Striving to overcome the pain left by the war, working hard to produce, developing the family economy, actively participating in social work, Mr. Le Dinh Cung deserves to be Uncle Ho's soldier, an example of an Agent Orange victim who overcame himself, did good business for everyone to learn and follow.
