The story of a famous YouTube musician begins with a strange transaction: Selling his spot in line to buy a first-generation iPhone.

The launch of the first iPhone was a global tech sensation, with consumers lining up for hours outside phone stores. In Dallas, Texas, 18-year-old Marc Rebillet was among them.

In an interview with local TV channel Fox 4, Rebillet said he had been there since 6 a.m., meaning he had spent 12 hours trying to find a place to buy an iPhone.

An impatient customer offered to buy Rebillet's spot with the question: "How much do you want to give up your space?"

The woman brought $100,000 with her to buy as many iPhones as possible, and Rebillet was the only one who stood in her way.

Ultimately, the two sides reached an agreement for $800 for Rebillet's position, which equates to $66.66 /hour, or enough to buy a new iPhone with at least $300 left over.

However, the woman quickly realized that the store only sold one iPhone per customer. Rebillet was still able to buy an iPhone thanks to two friends who came with her who only wanted to buy one.

Nearly two decades after that event, Marc Rebillet has built a successful career on the YouTube platform, according to Unilad . He has become an electronic music artist, pursuing a musical style that combines funk and hip-hop. His talent has been recognized internationally, with performances at many major music events around the world.

Rebillet has over 2.42 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he posts live streams, music videos , and short comedy videos. In addition to his social media success, Marc Rebillet is also a musician, releasing albums and collaborating with other artists.

According to social media earnings tracking platform Hafi , Rebillet's earnings have grown 98,000% from his initial $800 in the past year alone.

With a total of about 8.5 million fans globally, Hafi estimates Rebillet's income in the past year ranged from nearly $800,000 to more than $1 million , not counting other sources of income outside of the online platform.

If the 2007 Fox 4 interview was the starting point for his fame, the initial $800 was a huge return, well worth the 12 hours in line.
