Born and raised in a farming family in Phu Van flower village, from a young age, Mr. Vu Ngoc Dong knew about flower growing and mastered the techniques. When he grew up and built his own family, he continued to pursue the flower growing profession, actively learning and applying science and technology, determined to develop the flower growing profession more and more, earning high profits. At first, the family grew many types of flowers such as: chrysanthemums, peonies, bougainvillea, cotton flowers..., but the economic efficiency was only at a certain level. Since 2009, he boldly converted the rice field area to grow and trade roses. Accordingly, he renovated the low-lying land, raised the ground, and bought enough rose varieties to plant. Up to now, on an area of more than 4,000 m2 of land, his family's rose garden has thousands of rose trees of all kinds such as: Sapa old rose, Van Khoi rose, velvet rose, white rose... and imported rose varieties that are popular on the market; including rose roots from 7-10 years old, 2-2.5m high.

Mr. Dong shared: Growing roses is not difficult, even with foreign rose varieties, in addition to timely detection and regular spraying to kill common pests such as thrips, red spiders, mealybugs, yellow fungus, leaf spots or black rot branches..., for the rose tree to grow well, with large roots, strong trees, and beautiful flowers, it is necessary to regularly prune old leaves, wilted flowers, and fragrant branches to keep the tree canopy airy, reduce pests, and combine with composted organic fertilizer. The most important thing for rose growers is to pay attention to creating ideal humidity for the soil, it is best to water 1-2 times/day, do not water in the evening to avoid water stagnant on the leaves, making the tree susceptible to fungus or red spider disease when humidity is high, causing yellow leaves.

With more than 10 years of experience growing roses, Mr. Dong's family's rose garden is currently growing well, with many beautiful flowers, bringing high economic value. Every year, the garden supplies the market with thousands of seedlings and commercial flower pots, with prices ranging from 200,000 VND to several million VND/tree, depending on the type, size, and age. Every year, the income from growing roses brings Mr. Dong's family a revenue of 400 - 500 million VND... With a sharp mind, he has set up a sales page on Facebook, Zalo specializing in posting pictures of rose varieties in the garden. Many orders of Mr. Dong's family are made online, the garden takes photos and sends them via Facebook, satisfied customers will transfer money or order express delivery to receive the goods and pay. This way of selling saves expensive travel costs for both buyers and sellers, thereby helping the garden promote its products widely in the national market.

Not only focusing on economic development, Mr. Dong also actively participates in local social activities such as: donating land to build roads, build new rural areas; helping 3 poor and disadvantaged households with capital, materials and seedlings worth nearly 10 million VND; creating regular jobs for 3 workers with an income of 8 - 10 million VND/month and supporting 5 seasonal workers to have more jobs and income during the off-season.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Vice President of Phu Ly City Farmers' Association, said: Although the model garden house of Mr. Vu Ngoc Dong's family has just been established, it is affirmed to be an effective economic model; it is an address for farmer members to visit, study, and exchange knowledge and economic development techniques. The establishment and effective promotion of the garden house model will help farmer members in the area actively convert the crop structure to growing flowers and ornamental plants, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to increasing income, gradually becoming rich on their homeland.

With his contributions to the movement "Farmers compete in good production and business", Mr. Vu Ngoc Dong was awarded a certificate of merit and was considered for the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer in 2025".
