This information was shared at the launch event of the "Anti-Online Fraud Campaign 2025 - Slow but Steady" organized by the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department - Ministry of Public Security on October 14th in Hanoi .
After 28 years of global internet connectivity, Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest internet growth rates in the world .
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Do Thi (Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - A05) presented statistics showing that Vietnam ranks 12th in terms of Internet growth rate.
Notably, Vietnamese users spend approximately 6 hours and 38 minutes daily using the internet for various purposes, from information exchange and learning to economic interaction and entertainment. The development of technology also brings with it increasingly complex cybersecurity challenges.
Lieutenant Colonel Thi pointed out that every minute, approximately 2.9 million people worldwide become victims of cybercrime and high-tech crime. This includes online fraud, equivalent to 50,000 victims every second.
Speaking at the program, Colonel Ha Van Bac - Deputy Director of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (A05), Ministry of Public Security - assessed that in 2024 alone, tens of thousands of online fraud cases were reported to the authorities.
The estimated damage from online fraud in Vietnam amounts to nearly 20 trillion VND, with over 125,000 fake websites impersonating agencies and organizations, employing hundreds of increasingly sophisticated and professional schemes and tricks.
This figure is also incomplete, as many incidents are not reported to the authorities by individuals and organizations.

In response to the "Anti-Fraud 2025 - Slow and Steady" campaign, TikTok has implemented unprecedented activities, including, for the first time, support activities tailored to individual user accounts. These include notifications about fraudulent activities and sharing fraud prevention information with 70 million registered Gmail accounts.
Collaborating with authorities to identify search keywords with fraudulent elements, in order to prevent people from falling into the traps of scam groups, is an unprecedented action.
Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh - General Director of TikTok Vietnam - shared a simple way to reduce risks: "Before doing anything online, users should just pause for 3 seconds to think. During that time, don't rush to click on strange links, reply to messages, or call anyone so that you can protect your assets, and possibly even your life."
